Chapter 536: Sick

Li Lei said his goodbyes and left.
Feng Kun headed to the kitchen to get a cup of fruit juice for Xia Ling and asked, “What happened?”
The reason for leaving the house this time was far too secretive and wasn’t something she could explain easily. She just shook her head and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll stay for a short while before leaving. My feelings for Li Lei are still strong, there’s no big problem.”
Feng Kun did not probe further.
He only replied, “You can stay as long as you want.”
Xia Ling nodded her head gently and said sincerely, “Thank you, Ah Kun.” Maybe, as compared to Xia Moyan who came and went whenever, the man standing before her felt more like a brother to her. So warm-hearted and generous, always there during her saddest and most painful moments to provide her a back route, just like what her own family would do.
Feng Kun said, “Nothing to thank me for, my place is yours too. I almost forgot. I haven’t congratulated you. Your achievements at the Heavenly Voice Music Festival this time were good, and it has become more popular than ever before.”
Xia Ling laughed. “You’re kidding me, how does that count as much?”
Eventually, Feng Kun laughed too. True, even if she did extremely well at the music festival, it was nothing compared to how she attracted millions of people as a legendary Diva in her previous lifetime. At the coffee place, it was considered to have fallen short. This small achievement was indeed not worth mentioning.
He got her settled into the guestroom, with entirely new bedding and comfortable, quiet space.
In the middle of the night, she caught a fever.
Xia Ling giddily got up to look for medicine and hazily recalled how it could possibly be due to her catching a slight cold when she took a bath in the day. Li Lei’s treatment didn’t make things better, and with her emotions then all over the place, her body’s immunity dropped drastically and led to her falling sick. She felt that she couldn’t let Li Lei help bathe her the next time. He was a big jerk, a vermin, one who wasn’t honest, and the risks were too high.
While grinding her teeth, she almost collided into another person.
It was Feng Kun.
Feng Kun held her up, saw her abnormally red face, and reached out his hand to test her forehead.
“Are you sick?” He asked.
Xia Ling nodded obediently. “I want to take some medicine.”
Feng Kun said, “You head back to the bed and lie there, I’ll go find some medicine for you.” He helped her back to the bed, took her temperature, and got some warm water and fever medicine before coming back to watch over her.
“When the one at your place comes over tomorrow and sees you like this, I’m going to get killed.” Feng Kun said.
“I’ll protect you.” Xia Ling was so feverish that she spoke in a daze.
Feng Kun laughed as he used a handkerchief to dab at the sweat on her forehead and tucked her into bed before getting up to leave the guestroom.
This bout of fever was a really bad one. The next day, when Li Lei came over to visit, she lay on the soft bed of down and whined continuously while Li Lei chided her. “Told you not to stay in someone else’s house. Look, you fell sick the moment you left.”
“I caught a cold while showering, you vermin!” Xia Ling’s small face turned red, as she tried to use her dewy eyes to glare daggers at him.
Li Lei’s heart melted. He spoke gently, “I was wrong.”
“Hmph.” Xia Ling turned her back against him, ignoring him.
Li Lei decided to compensate for his actions and borrowed Feng Kun’s kitchen to make her favorite porridge. He also made a vegetable fruit juice and fed her bit by bit. She took a bit of rice from him before falling asleep.
Li Lei accompanied her for a while, while his phone rang endlessly. Things had been busy at Skyart recently, as Pei Ziheng recovered from his setback and was coming back at him with a strong counterattack, leaving him no choice but to put all his focus into fending him off. Seeing that Xia Ling was in good hands and that her condition was not too major, he requested for Feng Kun to take good care of her before leaving.
Over the next few days, he could only afford to come by for a short period of time each day.
Xia Ling was recovering very slowly from the fever and lay in bed weakly each day with a heavy head.
Initially, the plan was for her to discuss with Skyart about her newest job offers after the music festival ended, to better aid her in her endorsements and recording of new songs. Wei Shaoyin was already looking forward to it, only to learn that she was cooped up in Feng Kun’s house, sick. How could this be? Xiao Ling was Skyart’s precious, how could she be recuperating from sickness at Feng Kun’s place?
The moment Ah Wei learned of the news, he barged into Feng Kun’s house.
He entered with a fierce aura, rushing to Xia Ling and giving her a harsh scolding. He recently had a lot of experience with scolding and a long history of doing so. He scolded till Xia Ling felt extremely apologetic for letting down Skyart and guilty towards the entire world.
Xia Ling huddled in the blankets, shuddering, nodding her head apologetically while carefully taking note of his facial expressions.
Wei Shaoyin was breathing heavily, and when he turned his head to see Feng Kun standing by the door, his demeanor became even fiercer. “What are you doing here?” One would think that this was Ah Wei’s house, from the way things looked.
Feng Kun stood by the door, having stood there for who knew how long, probably because he had never seen anyone scold like that. He stared at him, jaw-dropped, and only began to speak a few seconds later. “Are you thirsty?” He passed a glass of water over conveniently.
Wei Shaoyin received the glass and downed it in one shot, probably tired from all the scolding. He then recalled that Feng Kun had not answered his question and asked again fiercely, “Why are you here?”
“I came to pass Xiao Ling her medicine.” Feng Kun walked over, handing Xia Ling the Chinese medicine he held in his hand.
Xia Ling took the two pills and said softly, “I have no water with me.”
It was then that Feng Kun realized. “I’ll go get some for you.”
Wei Shaoyin exploded. “Is this how you treat a sick patient?!”
Feng Kun eyed the glass in his hand. “… That glass of water was intended for Xiao Ling. I saw how long you took to scold her and figured you would be thirsty, so I passed it to you.”
Wei Shaoyin kept quiet.
Xia Ling was speechless.
Feng Kun turned to leave, soon returning with two glasses of water. One was a tall, thin crystal glass, with warm water for Xia Ling, while the other was a delicate, white porcelain cup, with the bitter incense smell of coffee wafting from it. Feng Kun passed the coffee over to Wei Shaoyin.
“I heard from Xiao Ling that you like to drink Mandheling coffee. I have it at home, try it.”
Xia Ling only mentioned it to Feng Kun once, never would she have thought that he would remember it.
Maybe it was the scent of coffee, but Wei Shaoyin’s expression softened, and he sighed softly as he took the cup of coffee. Lowering his head to take a sip, his expression softened even more. “I’m alright with it.”
Feng Kun smiled and didn’t bother arguing with him.
After he finished the coffee, Wei Shaoyin brought up his request. “It’s been really busy over at Skyart, and the amount of work has been piling up. I want to take Xiao Ling away.”
Feng Kun glanced at Xia Ling. “She hasn’t recovered yet.”
Wei Shaoyin wasn’t happy. “She can recover from her sickness at my place too.”
“You…” Feng Kun looked at him in suspicion and thought of how he should phrase his next words. “You know how to care for a patient?”
Xia Ling thought about how Wei Shaoyin often didn’t know what he was doing and how he was a heinous neat freak and hurriedly blurted out, “He doesn’t!” What a joke. Staying here at Feng Kun’s place, she was able to have three meals provided on time and even midnight snacks, but if she were to stay at Wei Shaoyin’s place, she didn’t even need to think about eating. Once he entered his workroom to work on his music, she would probably starve to death and no one would ever find out.
“Ye Xingling!” Wei Shaoyin glared daggers at her.
Xia Ling burrowed further into the covers guiltily.
