Chapter 210: SUSPICION ARISES (PART 8)
"You can say whatever you want but something is unusual about her. It doesn't seem right to me," Pedro said. He was more careful than the other members.
"The only thing that is unusual about her is she eats like a monster. I saw it with my own eyes and it's still hard for me to believe," Carlo commented.
"Then you do admit that she is unusual," Altan remarked. He looked at Juan and said, "She needs to be investigated thoroughly, I think. After we make sure that she is clean, we will move to our next target."
"There is no other target," Luo Yicheng curtly announced.
"Then what are we waiting for?" Liam spoke loudly while exchanging quick glances with others.
----------
Ge Chen walked toward the deck when he saw a man approaching his wife. However, he stopped in his tracks when he saw Xue Lin leave that place. He noticed that man glaring at his wife's back. He slowly narrowed his eyes. His fierce stare met that man's cold eyes. He noted that the man averted his eyes quickly.
When Xue Lin came closer, Ge Chen's gaze fell back on her. He asked her quietly, "What did you say to him?"
Xue Lin replied, "A piece of advice." She didn't wish to say more since it was another person's personal matter. Moreover, she didn't care about it.
Ge Chen smiled softly. "Do you want to rest a bit?"
Xue Lin said, "I can rest wherever I want to but I will hardly get to see this magnificent view."
"Louis has a large cruise in China. We can go there wherever we want to," Ge Chen noted that she relaxed more around nature than when she was with others.
Xue Lin looked surprised. "Oh! That's news to me. I will most certainly go with you there when we have summer holidays."
Ge Chen gazed at her gently as he said, "Sounds like a plan to me."
After chatting for a while, they went back to their room. Xue Lin felt tired and so she headed to the bed right after changing her clothes.
Meanwhile, Ge Chen opened his laptop. He had some unfinished business to settle. He was almost finished when he heard a commotion outside. He closed the laptop and went outside. He saw several crews running on the hallway.
He grabbed one of them and asked, "What's going on?"
The crew was a young man. He nervously answered, "Y-Young master Mu and his wife… they are missing…"
Ge Chen stared at the crew. "Missing?!" For a second, he thought that the crew was lying. Then again, he thought that maybe Mu Liang wanted to have a private time with his newly wedded wife. If he left with his wife for honeymoon, he wouldn't be surprised.
The crew replied, "Y-yes… someone saw them falling into the ocean." He licked his lips in nervousness. It was his first job and his employer had an accident. He blamed his bad luck.
"!!!" This time, Ge Chen understood the gravity of the situation. Yet, he was still calm. He inquired, "Where is Mu Feng? Take me to him."
"Yes!" The crew agreed.
The crew took him to the control panel. Mu Feng was with the captain of the ship. Ge Chen questioned his friend, "How did this happen?"
Mu Feng didn't have the time to look at his friend. He was instructing the bodyguards and the ship crews. After ordering them to search for the bride and the groom who fell into the ocean he was finally able to breathe.
He glanced at his friend and shared his frustration, "Ah, that Li Shen! I shouldn't have let him on board. If it wasn't for him, big brother and sister Lan Lan wouldn't have fallen into the ocean. The water is cold. We still haven't found them. I'm not sure how long they will last."
Ge Chen looked at the monitors and observed carefully. "Liang knows how to swim. Shouldn't we have already found them if that was the case?'
"That's what I'm worried about." Mu Feng felt like biting his nails. "Maybe I should go down and check by myself."
"No need for that. I will go," Ge Chen said.
Mu Feng prepared a swimsuit, oxygen cylinder and an oxygen mask for his friend. Ge Chen put them on. After a final check, he dived into the freezing ocean water.
On the deck, Mu Feng was pacing on the deck restlessly. The search party let their status know one by one. No one was able to give him any hopeful information. Fifteen minutes later, Ge Chen got up to the deck.
"What did you see? Did you find them?" Mu Feng anxiously questioned him.
Ge Chen took off his goggles and oxygen mask and looked at his friend. "It is suspicious."
Mu Feng frowned. "What is?"
Ge Chen told him, "There is nothing down there."
Mu Feng asked, "Then why is it suspicious?"
Ge Chen stood up and said, "It's because there is nothing. They didn't drown, they didn't sink; isn't it enough to make you suspicious?"
Mu Feng's brain went into overdrive. He concluded, "They must have been taken by someone."
"Didn't Li Shen throw them into the ocean? Interrogate him. If he says nothing, we can get my wife's help," Ge Chen suggested.
Mu Feng gritted his teeth. "Let's get him. I'll chew him alive."
"I can guarantee that he won't taste great," Ge Chen joked dryly.
-----------
Xue Lin was dreaming about something wonderful. She went to a chocolate factory and was told to eat however much she could eat. She took tons of chocolates and was ready to eat when she was called out. 1
Xue Lin opened her eyes and with a blurry vision, she saw Ge Chen gazing at her.
Xue Lin looked at her hands blankly. Just a second ago she had a mountain full of delicious chocolates in her hands.
Now, they were gone. Her hands were utterly empty.
She felt as though her heart was just taken from her. She realized that she was dreaming back then. She could still smell the sweet odor of the chocolates.
She heard him saying, "My wife, I'm so sorry. I need your help."
Xue Lin took a deep breath so that she wouldn't explode. Her voice quivered in anger, "My husband, it better be something good." Her gaze pierced his pair of grey eyes.
Ge Chen knew that his wife didn't like waking up when she was sleeping soundly. "I'm really sorry but it's urgent. Your friend and her husband are missing."
"Who?" Xue Lin squinted her eyes and had a frown.
Ge Chen replied, "Mu Lan and Liang."
"Where did they go?" Xue Lin asked without thinking.
"We don't know. That's why we need you to find out something from the person who was responsible for throwing them into the ocean."
"They are in the sea and missing since then?!" Xue Lin found it hard to believe. But then, she sighed. She thought, 'I knew she attracted danger all the time but to think she actually had another accident and that too on her wedding day, how unlucky could she be?'
She rubbed her head as it was throbbing. "Let's go."
After she got up from the bed, Ge Chen carefully wrapped a shawl around her shoulders. She was wearing a decent pink colored cotton maxi dress.
And, she just woke up. She had that innocent look on her face. Any man would fall for her at first sight. He didn't want her to show up like that in front of other men. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option at that time.
They went to a quiet room where Mu Feng and seven bodyguards were waiting for them. In the middle of the room, a man was sitting on a chair and his body was tied up with a rope.
She halted seeing that man and thought, '...Wait… didn't I meet him on the deck? ...Maybe I'm mistaken. I didn't even look at his face properly. They could be different people.'
"Is this the man who is responsible for the accident?" Xue Lin asked nonchalantly.
"Yes, he is the culprit," Mu Feng answered with contempt evident in his eyes. "We tied him up here because he was trying to jump into the ocean too. I think he had men down there to kidnap my big brother and sister Lan Lan."
"Did he now?" Xue Lin glanced at the half drunk Li Shen. She sat on the chair across him and looked at him leisurely. Then, she casually took out a pocket watch that was attached to a bronze chain.
Before she started, she warned others, "Gentlemen, please cover your ears or shut your eyes."
Upon hearing her warning, other men including Ge Chen and Mu Feng covered their ears or closed their eyes.
Those who kept their eyes open despite the warning, they saw Xue Lin moving the pocket watch in front of Li Shen like a pendulum. He gradually closed his eyes and fell asleep.. After he opened his eyes again, he looked more robotic.
