Chaim lowered his eyes. “He wanted to talk about the surgery.”

“Surgery?” Evelyn’s eyes lit up with irrepressible excitement, “When can I have the surgery?”

“Soon, the first surgery is in just a few days away.”

“Great!” Evelyn wept tears of joy.

Chaim handed a tissue to her, “Don’t cry. It’s not pretty.”

“Do you dislike me?” Evelyn pouted.

“No.”

“I don’t believe it!” Evelyn hugged her knees to her chest with a sad face. “I know I’m ugly now.”

“You’ll recover soon, don’t think too much.” Chaim ruffled her hair, feeling heartache.

“Chaim, do you think I can dance again?”

“Of course you can.”

“Really?”

Chaim nodded. He knew how much she loved ballet. So, he asked Nathaniel the same question a long
time ago. Nathaniel had said she would be able to dance again, as long as both surgeries were
successful.

“I believe you!” Evelyn hugged his waist, rubbing her face gently against his abdomen, “I know you’d
never lie to me.”

Chaim’s body suddenly tensed.



“Oh, am I interrupting?” Nathaniel’s flirtatious voice called from the doorway.

Evelyn blushed and let go of Chaim, “No, please come in. What brings you back so soon? Is there
something else?”

“Back?” Nathaniel raised an eyebrow.

Nathaniel glanced toward Chaim, meeting his cold and warning eyes.

He understood immediately what was going on and smiled, “Yes, I forgot some things. Chaim, can we
step outside to talk.”

As soon as the door closed, Nathaniel looked at him with a smirk. “It was Alexia just now, right?”

Chaim gave him a non-committal look and Nathaniel couldn’t help but smile.

“I thought so!” Nathaniel laughed. “I really don’t understand why you’re doing this to yourself. How long
do you think you can hide your marriage from Evelyn?”

“As long as I can.” Chaim said in a calm voice.

“Why?” Nathaniel frowned. “She doesn’t love you. All she loves is her ballet and the Lincoln Center.
Don’t tell me you want to get back with her?”

“I don’t!” Chaim said impatiently pinching his brow, “Alright, let’s finish this meaningless subject. Have
Alexia’s results come out yet?”

“Here you go.” Nathaniel handed over a folder with him, “It’s all in here, read it yourself.”

Chaim casually flipped it open. He couldn’t understand any of it. “Just tell me. Will Alexia have side
effects or not.”



“With good care after the surgery, there’s a seventy percent chance that it won’t be. But she won’t be
as healthy as she was.”

“That’s enough!” Chaim slapped Nathaniel on the chest with the folder.

She wouldn’t have any side effects and Eve could be saved. Then he didn’t have to struggle and feel
powerless anymore.

He would take full responsibility for Alexia’s future.

Nathaniel called after Chaim as he was about to return to the ward, “Chaim, do you know Alexia and
Evelyn are…”

“What’s wrong with them?”

Nathaniel hesitated for a moment then smiled, “It’s nothing particularly important. I’ll tell you when I’ve
discovered more.”

With that, he turned and marched off with his folder.

Chaim stared thoughtfully at Nathaniel’s back for a moment before opening the door. As soon as he
entered, a dark shadow slid along the floor and came to settle beside his feet.

It was a broken phone, and its owner was sitting on the bed, bawling and out of breath.

“Eve!” Chaim’s face froze.

He snatched the bottle of spray next to Evelyn’s bed and sprayed her face. A few moments later,
Evelyn’s breathing regained a normal rhythm as she gradually calmed down,

“Chaim, they’re too much.”



“They?”

“The other ballerinas. They were invited to the Lincoln Center and deliberately called to mock me. They
are so hateful!”

What made her hate them the most was that man. She loved him so much, but not only did he break
up with her, he also blocked her and mucked about bitches and whores! As soon as she was cured,
she’d teach them a lesson.

Evelyn’s eyelids dropped, covering the hatred in her eyes.

“You’ll be fine.” Chaim patted her back as he comforted her, “There’ll be another chance when you’re
better. How about you take a nap?”

“Will you leave if I fall asleep?” Evelyn grabbed his hand, not wanting to wake up alone.

“I won’t.”

He couldn’t leave when she was so emotionally weak.

“Chaim, don’t let me not see you.”

“I promise.” Chaim pulled a chair over and sat down beside her bed.

With his reassurance, she hugged his arm and closed her eyes contentedly.

After she fell asleep, Chaim gently pulled his hand out of Evelyn’s grasp and headed to the balcony to
call Alexia.

She was still in the car when she received the call. “Chaim.”



“You haven’t arrived at the office yet?” Chaim asked hearing the faint sound of traffic.

Alexia looked at the company building only a short distance away through the car window, “Not yet,
there was a traffic jam. But I’m almost there now.”

“Ok. Don’t go to sleep early tonight; I want to talk to you. I might be back a bit late though.”

“I understand.” Alexia responded in a low voice.

She could guess what he wanted to talk about. After all, he only wanted her for the bone marrow
donation.

After the call ended, Alexia gave a long sigh and got out of the car.

As soon as she exited the elevator, she saw Lynn standing in her office doorway.

“You’re back at last, where have you been?”

“I went out with Mr. Lancaster for some matters.” Alexia took out the office door card.

Lynn followed her, “Talking business?”

“Sort of.” Alexia said, setting the air conditioner to 79 degrees.

“No wonder, you didn’t even answer my calls.”

“I didn’t mean to ignore you.” Alexia apologized.

Alexia remembered the call that caused Chaim to find her. It had been from Lynn. She intended to
return it later, but forgot once she left the hospital.

“Anyway, what’s so important?” Alexia asked as she made Lynn a cup of tea.
