It’s All in the Past
“Did I say something wrong?” She really didn’t want to hear him explain.
He shook his head. “If I were really that kind of person, I wouldn’t have been with you. I would have
chosen. Cristina and married her.”
“That’s because Sarah hadn’t come back yet.”
Inhaling deeply, he sounded a little helpless. “The last thing you would believe is that I really like you,
isn’t it?” “Why should I trust you? You just broke your promises time and time again. Don’t remember?”
He heaved a sigh again, kind of speechless. “I’m not here to ask for your forgiveness.”
“Oh? Then what’s your purpose?”
Charlie lowered his gaze for a moment before he spoke. “Just to clarify something with you. Every time
I told you about my love, it was all from my heart. I wasn’t pretending or lying to you, nor have I looked
down on you since I recovered.”
Theresa remained silent, leaning against the pillow as well as observing his serious expression.
Charlie continued, “Although later on, we had many conflicts and I misunderstood you at times. But at
least before we got divorced, I was sincere with you. I wanted to know more about you and your child.
Back then, I always felt that you hid those things from me because you didn’t care about me. So I felt
quite upset.”
Now that he knew the truth, his heart was full of regret for misunderstanding her. He thought about how
close they used to be to each other, but now she was leaving him, and might even marry Dick.
Theresa felt stirred when hearing his explanation. She looked away and glanced at the window. The
curtains weren’t drawn, and it was already dark outside. Taking a deep breath, she said, “It’s all in the
past.” She knew that it was time to carry on.
Pursing his lips, he fixed his eyes on her. ‘Yes, it was all in the past, but could she understand my deep
feelings for her? I really need her.’ Thinking of this, he muttered, “Theresa, I…” He wanted to say “I love
you”, but before he spoke it out, he realized that she wouldn’t be happy to hear it.
She turned to him, saying politely, “Thank you for coming to tell me all this. I mean, thank you for your
love.”
He became nervous. “So?”
“The past is in the past. Now, I just want to live in the moment.” In her eyes, there was no point in
reminiscing about the past, even if everything hurting that had happened before was only because of
misunderstandings
“If he had He smiled bitterly. “Yes, that’s right. It’s all in the past. You just don’t know where fate would
lead you.” known all of this earlier, he would have cherished her much more. But it was too late for him
to correct his behaviors. With unfathomable emotions in his eyes, he reached out to stroke her head,
trying to persuade himself to let her go. After a while, he added in a lighter tone, “Alright, it seems that
you are very tired. I’ve finished. You can sleep now.”
After giving him a glance, she closed her eyes to fall asleep when someone knocked at the door.
He rose to open the door. Seeing Brenda. he demanded, “What’s wrong?”
Brenda answered, “Is she sleeping? Someone is waiting for her downstairs.”
