Outside, Caroline was anxiously waiting. She was desperately wishing that the ring was valuable
enough for sufficient money, but her conscience was also reluctant to sell her mother's last possession.
Just as she was suffering in her heart, the pawnshop clerk returned.
Upon hearing that their boss wanted to see her, she immediately followed him inside.
Caroline's heart was jumping. She had a vague guess that the ring might have some background.
The pawnshop owner, in his forties, came in with her ring in his hand and asked, "Miss, do you own this
ring?"
Caroline nodded.
"Sir, how much can you give me for this ring?"
"You're short of money?" The other party asked.
Caroline smiled bitterly.
"This is my mother's relic. If it wasn't for the lack of money, I naturally wouldn't want to pawn it"
"This address."
The pawnshop owner gave her a business card.
"Go here at seven in the evening and you'll get what you want"
"Sir, what do you mean?"
Caroline's heart began to beat like a drum.
This was basically the same as when she had dumbly went to the hotel that Aldrich had told her
secretary back then.
"Take back the ring, the pawnshop owner said.
"If you want money, do as I say."
Caroline took the business card in a daze and left with the ring.
However, before that, she went to the hospital first.
Charlene had already woken up.She was deathly pale and thin, like a worn out fragile doll, or a
withering white flower easily blown away by the wind.
Yet despite that, she held a gentle smile.
It was soothing, washing Caroline's worries away. She held Caroline's hand and said, "Carrie, listen to
me.I heard from the doctor that we need a large amount of money, but I don't want you to overwork
yourself anymore.Take care of yourself too.Don't worry about me anymore."
"It's fine.Lene, I've already thought of a way."
Caroline held her twin sister's hands more tightly and smiled.
"Do you still remember the ring that Mom left us? That ring is very valuable.I've already asked about
it.I'll change it tonight, and you'll be able to have the operation!"
Charlene's heart trembled.
She couldn't believe it, but seeing Caroline's warm smile, she swallowed what she wanted to say and
simply nodded.
"Alright, Carrie" she said.
"I also want me to get better sooner.I want to go to work with you and earn money together.I can't be a
burden anymore .."
"What are you saying?"
Caroline's smile was cracking along with the tears appearing in her eyes, but she managed to hold it
up.
"You're a blessing for being here with me.Otherwise, I don't even know how to hold on."
Charlene's body was still very weak, so she fell asleep after talking for a while.
In the evening, Caroline went to the place the pawnshop owner said.
Actually, if she wasn't desperate, how could she, a lowly girl, dare to go to such a place that looked like
the suburbs? However, she no longer had a choice.
At worst, she would lose her sister and then eventually her life.
Caroline walked to the address shown on the business card but was in awe to find a single villa.
The land surrounding it was impressively wide, although rather desolate.
Still, the villa stood proudly in the middle. She walked up to the door and knocked a few times.
A maid in her forties opened the door, and she was immediately invited in, "Sir is already waiting for
you inside."
She was led inside but she only looked down the shiny marble floors, not daring to peek at the grand
layout of the mansion.
They stopped in front of a door, and that was when the maid retreated.
Caroline took a deep breathe and lightly knocked on the door.
"Come in” a man replied from the inside.
His low voice flowed through and seemed to linger for a few seconds as though it was a cello speaking.
Caroline pushed the door open and entered, only to discover that the curtains of the room were drawn
and the lights were not turned on.
She could see the outline of a tall silhouette standing with his back on her through the light outside the
door.
The faint aura emanating from his body was oppressive.
"Close the door’ Caroline's palms were sweating, but she still turned around and closed the door.
Suddenly, the room fell into darkness.
Caroline's breathing tightened.
"Sir, it's closed”
"Caroline Nigel, 22 years ald, local, an orphan, only has a twin sister’’ the man recited indifferently, as if
knowing almost everything about her was nothing too serious.
"Height 164, weight 90, blood type .."
Caroline was shocked, but realizing the other party's identity, it wouldn't be too hard for him to figure
them out.
Besides, those were basic information anyone could find if they got a hold of her birth certificate.
She also knew rich people would often do this to ensure their own security.
So she simply replied, "Yes"
"You're short of money? How much do you want?"
There were small shuffles, indicating that the man must have turned around.
Caroline could even feel him approaching her step by step.
As a result, the pressure made her unable to breathe. She replied breathlessly, "One million"
"Sure, he replied immediately, surprising her.
"But the condition is to give me the ring." Caroline nodded.
Of course it was a given, but his next words made her freeze.
"And give me a baby in a year."
