438 Deminer
Eighteen Massacres was so upset he could die!
He had taken the initiative to invite Lin Jie to explore the Sun Ruins, but his motives were not that simple.
One: His performance in the Third Main Plot Dungeon was good, so it only made sense for Lone Wolf to help him increase his strength.
Two: There were all sorts of dangers everywhere in the ruins. If Lone Wolf were to ever end up in a sticky situation, he would take the opportunity to take him down!
Three: The Ruins of the Sun was a rural location, suitable for setting up an ambush. Eighteen Massacres had already ordered his own men, along with those from Twilight Transmigration, to prepare to ambush Lin Jie!
Until today, Twilight Transmigration, and even Three Alliances, still believed that Eighteen Massacres had planted moles in Savage Blade and attained precious insider information. Although their plan was foiled by Lin Jie in the end, Eighteen Massacres’ loyalty was recognized by these people! After discussing with Character Z, they came up with a plan together.
Firstly, Eighteen Massacres would make contact with Lin Jie and “pretend” that he was kicked out for making a mistake in the dungeon. After that, Eighteen Massacres would seek shelter in Brotherhood and provide them with news of an ancient ruin far away. Then, he would invite Lin Jie to explore it together. Finally, they would surround Lin Jie in the ruins and kill him at that moment! In order to gain the trust of Lin Jie, Eighteen Massacres and Twilight Transmigration had worked together to act in a game of “Hunter’s Sneak Attack”.
Eighteen Massacres really excelled in being a traitor! If his plan succeeded, he would be the only one benefitting from it all. Twilight Transmigration, Brotherhood, and Lin Jie would all be the victims.
However, the situation had taken a 180 degrees turn! Lin Jie had suddenly changed his mind and threatened Eighteen Massacres, wanting him to listen to his commands. On top of that, he wanted to give the reward of the Sun Ruins, the Seven Swords, to an NPC. How could Eighteen Massacres take this lying down?
He walked ahead with a grim expression and was close to exploding in anger. How he wished for some killing machines to appear on their journey and kill Lin Jie!
Lin Jie had already thought this through. Even if they were not any high technology infrared detector that would set off explosions, it only made sense if there were poison arrows and darts guarding the Sun Ruins.
After seeing how Galru did not attack Eighteen Massacres, there could only be one conclusion: Only those who learned Sun Swordsmanship would not activate the traps in the ruins.
As such, Eighteen Massacres became Lin Jie’s deminer.
Kacha— Kacha—
There was a soft noise coming from the walls, and ten neat rows of arrows appeared. However, after sensing Eighteen Massacres’ aura, they immediately retracted. Lin Jie was swift, and he destroyed the mechanisms with Blade Aura! On top of this, the fire traps on the ground and long spears shooting from the ceilings… were all unable to hurt Lin Jie. Meanwhile, Eighteen Massacres had to endure Lin Jie’s insulting commands.
“Continue ahead. Slow down. Walk five steps to test it out.”
“Three steps to the left…”
“Three steps to the front. Turn left. Yes. Reach out your right leg. Huh? Nothing? That shouldn’t be right. There should be a snake trap around here.” Lin Jie commanded and continued to make Eighteen Massacres move forward.
“Enough!” Eighteen Massacres roared in anger. “Lone Wolf, I’ve had enough! Just kill me if you can, I’ll see if you can walk through this map filled with traps alone! Sun Swordsmanship!”
Swoosh!
Seven Style Spear turned into a broadsword, and Eighteen Massacres charged forward like a wild beast. The flame aura on the tip of the broadsword surrounded his body and formed a protective shield. It was the Sun Shield!
Clang!
-109!
The broadsword slashed Lin Jie’s armor viciously. A tiny piece of sea king scale cracked, but it did not fall.
“Eighteen Massacres, with your current level, equipment, and stats, how much damage can you deal to me even with all your strength? It’s not like you are a Boss with hidden stats, stop messing around.” Lin Jie shook his head. Without even using his Broken Blade, he pressed against Eighteen Massacres’ chest with his hand and pushed him forward so that he could continue working as a deminer.
“Sun Blade Aura!” Eighteen Massacres continued to roar, but there was not a single effect on Lin Jie’s body. Eighteen Massacres was much weaker than Character Z. On top of that, he did not have any skills to shred defense. It was difficult for him to deal damage to Lin Jie, who had Sea King Scaly Armor that gave him up to 1,700+ Defense. His attacks were just like soft punches without any use.
Lin Jie suddenly stopped. In front of him was a vast area that could be covered in one glance. On the wall at the far end were grooves with a large vintage map on top.
Mission item!
But… on such a vast land, there was no doubt it was filled with trap mechanisms.
Lin Jie looked at Eighteen Massacres, and his lips curled into a smile. In the eyes of Eighteen Massacres, his smile was filled with evil and malicious intent. His pupils constricted, and he cried out in shock, “What do you want?”
“Death Grip!”
Lin Jie reached out with his right hand and grabbed Eighteen Massacres by his throat, pulling him towards him. Then, with a standard bowling pose, he flung him viciously. Eighteen Massacres instantly flew forward, rolling on the ground. Black tracks were left on the ground as he headed towards the map.
Clink! Clink! Clink!
The surrounding walls boomed, and cracks appeared as poisonous arrows came flying out. The arrowheads were bright orange and were made out of pure fire. They were similar to the “Fire Arrow” of Unexpected, but with higher stats. Each arrow could deal around 400 points of damage. If all of them were to land critical hit damage, even Lin Jie, with his ridiculously high health, would not be able to survive.
These arrows were like the fangs of a venomous snake. As soon as they sensed Eighteen Massacres’ aura, they retracted back into the wall. Just as the mechanisms were about to shut tight, Lin Jie used Hunter’s Forward Charge and rushed into it at breakneck speed! Before the trap activated again, there was a less than a 1-second cooldown. Lin Jie took the opportunity and rushed into the grooves on the wall.
In front of him was a map.
[Seven Swords Formation]: Special item. When combined with Seven Swords, it allows you to cast the Sub-Legendary Skill [Seven Swords Sun Executioner]. Before you can use this item, you have to spend at least 5 hours sealing the skill.
Eighteen Massacres’ jaws dropped and eyes darkened. He reached out immediately, planning to snatch it!
“Lone Wolf, this is the treasure in the Sun Ruins. It belongs to me. Give me the map and the Seven Sun Swords. I’ll learn the Sub-Legendary skill, which will definitely be useful. When I get my hands on the army of the Three Alliances, I can give them to you!”
Ang—
Dragon’s Roar!
Lin Jie’s Broken Blade shook, and a dragon’s roars came out of it, forcing Eighteen Massacres to step back. Lin Jie smiled calmly and said, “I don’t need the army of the Three Alliances. Our partnership is simple, you give me insider info and be my mole. I’ll then help you return to the best team. As for the rest, it’s out of our deal.”
As he spoke, Lin Jie kept the map in his bag. He lifted his chin and said, “It’ll depend on your performance now if we continue this partnership.”
Eighteen Massacres was spitting fire in rage. However, in the next second, he gradually calmed down. There was a change in attitude as he laughed. “Oh, there are some times when I can’t control my temper. We’ll work together and cooperate. Let’s go.”
His footsteps were extremely slow, allowing Lin Jie, who was behind him to walk safely. Eighteen Massacres was an infrared ray stopper now, which prevented the trap mechanisms from activating.
If it were not for Eighteen Massacres, but Lin Jie broke into the secret room alone, he would have to spend a lot of effort getting through the traps. However, with this deminer around, everything was much easier.
Lin Jie safely returned to the Wind Rider Sword Saint and handed over the map. He said respectfully, “I have the item you wanted here.”
Wind Rider Sword Saint nodded with contentment. “Very good!”
Whoosh—
The map flew into the air and enlarged by a few folds instantly. It turned into a star atlas! Within it, there happened to be missing Seven Swords! Wind Rider Sword Saint waved his right hand, and the wind began roaring in the room instantly as countless Wind Spirits gathered. The seven swords lost its ability to resist and was sealed in the map.
“At first, I drew this map because I was bored. I had meant for it to help a few disciples learn to control the Seven Swords. Who knew that I would end up having to rely on it in order to control the lost sword.” Wind Rider Sword Saint shook his head. He said to Lin Jie and Eighteen Massacres, “I’m very grateful to you, young warriors. Is there anything you want?”
Three options popped up in front of him: Equipment, Tool, Secret legend.
Lin Jie pondered and chose the secret legend option. Before Wind Rider Sword Saint could open his mouth to speak, Lin Jie asked, “Do you know if every job has its own top tier technique?”
Wind Rider Sword Saint was surprised. He nodded. “Yes, every job has a unique ability. Every job has nine of this top-tier technique! It’s extremely difficult to even understand one technique. If one can grasp just one top-tier technique, they will be able to become a Corporal or even gain a position at Commander-level if they join the empire.”
“Can you teach me the nine great techniques of a Berserker then?”
Lin Jie held his breath. This was the most important question.
Wind Rider Sword Saint smiled. His crude barbarian face made his smile look heroic and bold. He sighed. “Since they are top-tier techniques, they are the last resort. How can they be taught so easily? Even I am not able to learn all of them. However, you already have some knowledge on the Berserker’s 100 Consecutive Strikes. As long as you practice, you’ll be able to understand and master it. This is one of the nine great techniques.”
Lin Jie frowned. He opened up the video of Character Z’s battle and asked, “This whirlwind of his…”
“Oh? This is… Seven Spinning Slash? What is this man’s name? His ability to understand the technique is pretty good. Perhaps he can unleash the true essence of Wind Swordsmanship!” Wind Rider Sword Saint’s eyes lit up at Character Z’s performance. He had the same excited expression as Tyrese.
“Seven Spinning Slash? Is this Character Z’s strongest move?” Lin Jie’s eyes darkened, and he frowned. He muttered, “I can’t underestimate anyone after all. I haven’t even touched the tip of the iceberg of the nine great techniques, but Character Z was already able to use one in battle. Seems like I’ll have to mark this fellow in the future. If he ever meets Wind Rider Sword Saint, it would be terrible! This NPC is not just exclusive to me. Other people may even trigger a better mission.”
