After tying up the robbers, the local residents began to beat them.
To rescue his daughter and deal with the aftermath, the middle-aged man brought a group of constables, maids, and a butler. Before he even issued the command, the maids had gone to take care of his daughter. The butler went to the third brother, squatted down and touched his nose, only to find that this person was dead.
"My Lord, this one is dead. How should we deal with these two bandits? Take them to the police or…" the butler asked the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man waved his hands and said in a deep voice, "Forget it. Let's not disturb the police. This is about my daughter's reputation, let's deal with it privately."
"Yes," the butler understood. He retreated and dealt with the robbers.
The police's power had always been weak in the Foshan area, where squires, like the middle-aged man, were the main force that maintained social order and security. The two bandits would be tortured, killed, and buried in a pit.
"Dad!" Wearing the clothes brought by her maids, the young woman ran to the middle-aged squire, pointed to Old Time Tea and Famous and said, "The cat and dog saved me. If they were not here, I'm afraid I might have…" She started sobbing before she finished her words.
The middle-aged squire nodded slightly, and he had a lot to say to his daughter, but this wasn't the time nor the place for him to speak of these things. "I see. You go back home with the servants. I will handle this."
The young woman sat on a soft couch and her servants carried her, leaving the mountain. She frequently looked back, reluctantly waving goodbye to Old Time Tea and Famous.
Old Time Tea and Famous had fell back from the scene. When they saw that the young woman was safe, they were about to turn around and leave. Before they could, the middle-aged squire cleared his throat, saluted, and said, "My name is Wu Mancheng, may I ask who is the owner of this cat and dog? I can't thank you enough for saving my daughter, Wu Ning, and her reputation. Could you please show yourself so that I can extend my gratitude in person?"
He witnessed Old Time Tea and Famous bravely save his beloved daughter, so he assumed that the cat and dog had been trained by a recluse, otherwise it'd impossible for them to be so intelligent. Even so, the cat and dog were so amazing. Could this recluse be immortal?
Wu Mancheng asked several times, but no one answered.
After torturing the bandits and searching the surrounding environment, the constables made sure that no other criminals were hiding, so they asked Wu Mancheng whether they should head back to the town.
Wu Mancheng pondered, since his helper refused to show up, he didn't want to insist anymore. When he was about to issue the order to leave, he saw something twinkle under the rising sun. While the others waited, and he approached Old Time Tea and Famous by himself. When he went closer, he was worried that their trainer was watching, so he apologized before cautiously bowing down and stared at the nameplate on Famous' neck.
"Amazing Fate Pet Shop." He read the characters from right to left and found that two of the characters seemed strange, but familiar. He didn't know what the string of Arabic numerals under those characters meant.
"Could this be the name of my benefactor?"
Famous didn't know how to answer because there was no so-called benefactor.
Wu Mancheng thought for a long time, and finally, decided to go back home to comfort his daughter. He also had to get statements from the two bandits and warn the servants not to talk about this incident to anyone.
Before entering the mountain, he promised himself that he would not return to town until he had found his daughter, so he brought a lot of food and water with him. Now, he ordered his people to leave the food and water. He called for the mystery person several times more and, when he was certain that the trainer had no intention of showing up, led the men and went home.
After fighting criminals for half the night, Old Time Tea and Famous were tired, thirsty, and hungry. When the people left, they ate the roast chicken, smoked fish, and beef. After eating the food, they both became very sleepy. They found a place that protected them from the wind and fell asleep. They slept for most of the day, and when they were awakened by loud noises, it was already sunset.
"Old Time Tea, wake up! Someone is coming!" Sounds traveled faster under the ground than in the air, and since Famous put its ears against the ground to sleep, it was able to realize sooner than Old Time Tea that some people were walking up the mountain.
Old Time Tea slept in the tree, and when Famous woke it up, it saw those people. It swiftly climbed to the top of the tree and observed every move the people made.
These people, led by the butler who came here in the morning, appeared to be craftsmen judging from their clothes and the fact that they were carrying all kinds of materials like timber, bricks, hammers and nails. The group of people stopped in the area where they saved Wu Ning.
When the butler saw that a lot of the food they left, especially the meat and smoked fish, was consumed, he knew that Wu Mancheng's speculation was correct. He instructed the servants to get rid of the leftovers and leave new food.
The craftsmen began working. They were skilled workers hired by Wu Mancheng. Among them were masons, carpenters, oil painters, and so on. They had overcome all sorts of obstacles to bring the construction materials to the mountain because the roads were too difficult for vehicles or horses to travel through. Following the directions of their employer, they performed their own tasks, such as checking the terrain of the mountain, identifying their location, and gathering wood to build a house.
For several consecutive days, these craftsmen worked in the mountain. A building that faced south soon began to take shape and looked magnificent in the wilderness.
Old Time Tea and Famous looked at them with confusion, wondering what this building was for. The building had no yard, so it didn't seem like it was built for living purposes. Besides, this desolate mountain wasn't really a good place for humans to live.
The butler left fresh meals every day. Even if the butler didn't come here himself, he would ask someone else to deliver the food. The simple meals were for the craftsmen, while the food with lots of meat were for Old Time Tea and Famous.
Old Time Tea and Famous lived a very comfortable life, their stomachs full every day. Lying in the distance to watch the artisans work, they took turns to guess why these people were building such a house.
Wu Mancheng and his daughter, Wu Ning, never came back. They must be dealing with a lot of problems, publicly and privately. Besides, Old Time Tea and Famous did not expect anything for saving Wu Ning, so they didn't mind.
A few days later, the house was completed and the artisans left. Before leaving, the butler bowed and bid farewell to Old Time Tea and Famous from afar.
Having long been tortured by their curiosity, Old Time Tea and Famous rushed towards the house to see what the house was for and what was inside.
When they came closer to the house, they looked up to see a brand new plague hanging in the front that read, Temple for the Righteous Cat and Chivalrous Dog.
