Chapter 155: Turning Back Time, Coming Back To Life
“The way it should be?” Meng Lei looked stupefied. “The Two-Headed Great Earth Lion that I’ve killed has come back to life, and you’re telling me this is just the way it should be?”
“How ignorant of you!” Ol’ Amos shook his head, laughing as he did so. “Let me ask you something. If the Magical Beasts that you’ve killed were really dead, wouldn’t all the Magical Beasts in the Dragon God Tower have been massacred after the last 40,000 years?”
The question dumbfounded Meng Lei.
“If all the Magical Beasts inside the Dragon God Tower were dead, then will there still be any need for future generations to challenge the tower? That way, is there still any meaning to the Dragon God Genius Ranking?”
Meng Lei found himself dumbfounded once more.
“The last question—if everyone behaves like you and slaughters the Magical Beasts level by level, won’t the challengers following after you be able to go up to the same level as you effortlessly?”
The three questions thrown at him one after another completely stupefied Meng Lei, and he asked, “Ol’ President, what exactly is going on?”
“I’ll just tell you the truth. All the native beings and Magical Beasts inside the Dragon God Tower are immortal. Or rather, they certainly can be killed. However, they’ll come back to life again in the blink of an eye, and then, they’ll continue to guard the half-planes!” Ol’ Amos sighed and explained, “This is a cycle that keeps repeating over and over. They guard the half-planes for all their lifetimes to come, and exist to be hunted by people.”
“How did that happen?”
Meng Lei was astounded!
“You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask, then? All I know is that the creatures in Dragon God Tower are immortal. As for how they are being revived, that isn’t something I’m privy to.” Ol’ Amos shook his head and went on. “However, rumor goes that Dragon God Tower has the ability to turn back time and revive all the Magical Beasts that have been killed.”
Turn back time?
Meng Lei was stunned by his answer.
“Time is a taboo that even deities cannot touch. Nobody knows for sure whether or not the Dragon God Tower can really turn back time.” Ol’ Amos shook his head and remarked, “Perhaps only the Dragon God Tower’s creator—His Holiness the Dragon God—would know the answer to that.”
Meng Lei had only silence as a response to that. He couldn’t help but shift his gaze to the Two-Headed Great Earth Lion currently baring its fangs at him.
Contrary to expectations, that Saint Domain Magical Beast, which he had just cleaved into two with the Dimensional Blade a while ago, was actually standing there well and intact in this instant. Even the blood that had spurted onto the ground during their battle earlier had vanished from sight.
On top of that, there was no fear or reservations in the way how the Two-Headed Great Earth Lion was looking at him. What was present in its eyes were still a look of hostility and savagery!
That look in its eyes was exactly the same as when he had first encountered it back when he had just ascended to the 39th level!
Turn back time?
Meng Lei suddenly found himself somewhat convinced that the Two-Headed Great Earth Lion had indeed been revived by turning back time—after all, that fellow was behaving as though it was seeing him for the very first time. Those eyes... There was no mistake about it!
The next few Saint Domain Magical Beasts he subsequently encountered only served to prove the theory truer and truer.
The Evil-Eye Overlord on the 38th level...
The Six-Winged Extraterrestrial Demon Bug on the 37th level...
The Double-Heart Rainbow Scorpion on the 36th level...
The Titanic Golden-Shell Turtle on the 35th level...
All of them had come back to life!
Each and every one of them stood there well and intact. On top of that, all of them behaved as if they had never seen Meng Lei before!
The look in their eyes... There was no way they could fake it!
Can the Dragon God Tower really turn back time?
The question lingered persistently in Meng Lei’s mind all the way till he reached the first level.
All the Magical Beasts he had previously killed had all come back to life.
The scenery in all the half-planes was also exactly the same as when he had first gone in. It was as if he had never even been there in the first place!
What an incredible divine weapon! Did the Dragon God really craft this thing?
Never mind! Who cares? This is a piece of good news for me anyway, isn’t it?
Meng Lei pushed his doubts to the back of his mind and exited the Dragon God Tower. Right after he did, he was immediately met with several pairs of astonished, astounded, idolizing, jealous... eyes!
It was only then that Meng Lei realized that the area outside the Dragon God Tower was packed with people, and everyone was staring at him with all sorts of complex looks in their eyes as if they were staring at an alien.
“So, that’s Meng Lei? He looks so young!”
“I didn’t think that he would really be a human!”
“It’s hard to imagine that he’s actually a human!”
“In terms of talent alone, that guy is probably more of a mutant than even Prince Barbarossa, Sachhen the Golden Dragon-Lion, Adil the Thunder Giant, and so on!”
“He certainly has greater talent than Prince Barbarossa and the others, but that may not necessarily be the case when it comes to their strength. He’s too young...”
Wasn’t it daybreak just a moment ago? Where did all these people come from?
Meng Lei wondered to himself as he glanced at his pocket watch—it was currently only 7:25 a.m. and still early in the morning.
“Meng Lei!”
A familiar voice reached his ears at that moment. Meng Lei turned to see President Fred and the Fighting Dragon Academy president gazing at him with much approval and marvel on their countenances and their eyes brimming with gratification.
Behind them were the Fire Dragon Kingdom’s contestants. Joel and the others that had entered the Dragon God Tower together with him were also there.
“President Fred! Fighting Dragon Academy president!”
Meng Lei walked over and greeted them.
“Atta boy! You’re finally out! I was so worried that you had lost track of time and would end up missing the exchange competition.”
President Fred patted Meng Lei on the shoulder hard, the very picture of a greatly comforted and gratified old man. “Haha! You’ve really brought great honor to the academy and Fire Dragon Kingdom this time.”
“Coming in at 227th place and reaching Level 40 at 16 years old!”
The Fighting Dragon Academy president remarked in astonishment, “It’s truly a marvel that you can accomplish results like that during the very first time you enter the Dragon God Tower!”
“227th place?”
Meng Lei turned to look at the huge magic screen—true enough, he saw his name occupying the 227th position!
“No. 227: Meng Lei, Human, 16 years old, Level 40”
“I’m already at 227th place?” Meng Lei was rather surprised. “That’s really quick!”
“How do you feel? Have you been astonished by your own results? Hahaha!” President Fred burst into laughter and said, “Frankly speaking, you’ve astounded all of us. So much so that none of us even slept a wink the whole night. Instead, we just stayed here the whole time and watched your god-like achievements from challenging the tower!”
“All of you were waiting here the whole night?” Meng Lei was a little stunned. “Do you really need to be that crazy?”
“Of course! How can we not be?” The Fighting Dragon Academy president, who was all smiles, said, “You’re now hailed as the number two person in the empire’s history of 40,000 years! It’s just a notch inferior to Timon Barton, who’s ranked number one!”
“Number two in history?” Meng Lei shook his head. He didn’t give two hoots about all these empty titles—they weren’t even as valuable as a few hundred gold coins.
At this point, a smiling President Fred said, “It’s about time. We should head to the Dragon God Cathedral now.”
“Alright!”
Then, everyone began to make their way to the Dragon God Cathedral.
During the whole journey there, everyone asked Meng Lei about his experiences during the process of him challenging the tower, to which he answered all their questions one by one, causing them to constantly gasp in astonishment.
In particular, a small group of them that had also entered the Dragon God Tower—such as Francis and the others—found it even more unbelievable.
The Dragon God Tower really wasn’t an easy place to challenge.
This was especially true from the 21st level onward—each of the Ninth-Grade Magical Beast packs was crazier than the last and harder to deal with than the last. A moment of carelessness, and one would die a tragic death.
Francis knew this only too well.
On the other hand, Meng Lei had bulldozed his way through and climbed all the way to the 40th level just like that. Moreover, judging from how he sounded, if it weren’t for the fact that he needed to participate in the exchange competition, he would have no problems going even further up.
Just what kind of combat strength was that?
As they chatted idly with one another, they finally arrived at the Dragon God Cathedral half an hour later.
The Dragon God was the one and only god that the Dragon God Empire’s billions of citizens believed in. The Dragon God Vatican was a church that worshipped the great Dragon God, and the Dragon God Cathedral was their headquarters.
