Glory(6)
Morpheus let out a long howl. As much as it was music to Brendel’s ears, it was a daunting sound to the Northern Coalition Army. Suddenly, a pair of demonic wings sprouted out from behind Morpheus, and silver lines of blood were etched on his forehead as well — The Clans’ Seal.
“That’s enough!”
William could not stand it anymore. He roared. He had tried to eliminate Morpheus in one hit many times, but when Brendel just simply sacrificed the Martyrs of Radiance, all his efforts go to waste. That was not mentioning the difficulty to kill a being who has achieved Peak of Laws while being constantly being healed by the Grimoires of Life.
This deputy head of the Paladins finally understood the fact that he was on a doomed path.
Seeing the fearless look in Brendel’s face, he shivered.
His heart went cold.
No, there’s still one more chance.
At that moment, William’s aura suddenly changed; the golden threads that encircled him turned silver all at once, and a white flame blazed above him.
In front of him, Morpheus raised his head to look at Paladin’s deputy commander in surprise. To him, William’s existence was completely erased.
He had entered another realm.
The Ultimate Realm.
“Brendel, look out!” Orthylss suddenly shouted in his mind, “It’s the Flash Strike Sword Art!”
Flash Strike Sword Art.
Among the three great sword arts, the Nine Luminaries Sword Art was known to be the best Magic Sword Art amongst them as it uses magic to produce mirages. Although people tend to confuse it for a quick sword art; in fact, the fastest sword art among the three fast swords was Flame King Gretel’s Flash Strike Sword Art.
The mystery that Flash Strike Sword Art was faster than the Nine Luminaries Sword Art was one of the questions Brendel had relentlessly bombarded Orthylss with.
And today, he finally got the answer he wanted.
At that moment, he felt his own Lines of Laws tremble.
The Laws of Space were influenced.
Despite being a physical sword, the technique managed to surpass the boundaries of space and attack any point. Almost like Brendel’s Space Elemental Power.
The next moment, Brendel saw William appear beside himself with his eyes shining coldly. Like metallic silver.
He looked back at them.
He had an Anrolda’s Divine Ring ready and was not afraid of any attack from William.
However, William did not attack him. Out of the blue, a majestic aura spread out between the heavens and the earth, as if infinite power extended along in all directions at an instant, and the boundaries between heaven and earth ceased to exist.
Everything turned bleak white.
The Ultimate Realm.
For the first time, Brendel was surprised by this man’s actions. He had finally used the Holy Cathedral of Fire’s secret technique to sacrifice his own lifeforce for a chance to step into the Ultimate Realm. With that, he would lose his chance to improve his own sword skills.
He was undoubtedly an expert at the Peak of the Law as he could easily make such a decision. He must have been really determined to eliminate Brendel.
Brendel could not help but sigh. When William pulled him into the Extreme Plains, he would be isolated from his own summons except for the Cards that were still in his hand.
Which was a real pain in the ass.
He only had a third of his deck and Cards left; the real problem, however, was the Desperate Trojan Horse and Grimoires of Life being left outside of the realm and thus breaking the cycle. Although temporary, it could spell the Brendel’s death.
He could only applaud William for being a seasoned swordsman. He may have been a little retarded, his battle instincts were first-rate. In just one strike, he managed to expose Brendel’s weakness.
Which was him being a Planeswalker.
William slashed at him. Anrolda’s Divine Ring flickered once more. Expecting that, he slashed once more, shattering Brendel’s figure into countless pieces like a mirror.
But that was not caused by his attack.
It was an afterimage created by the Nine Luminaries Sword Art.
William was not surprised but was rather delighted. He could not help but laugh like a madman, “Hahaha, you really can’t keep casting that spell. I’d like to see how many times the Nine Luminaries Sword Art can save you!”
He was talking precisely about Anrolda’s Divine Ring.
But Brendel looked at the guy with some pity.
If Brendel were to fight William one on one outside of this realm, he would have been beaten up like a helpless dog. However, out of desperation, he pulled Brendel into the Extreme Plains.
But rather than being the true Extreme Plains, it was his own personal dimension. That being said, in this world, his control over the Laws was near omnipotent.
This was his home turf, a world woven by William’s Lines of Laws.
“William,” Brendel could not help but sigh.
This Paladin’s deputy commander was faintly struck.
Then he saw roaring black flame burning in Brendel’s eyes, burning his hair and his hands. In a flash, a pair of wings burning with abyssal fire spread out from behind Brendel.
And Brendel’s voice became hoarse and low, “You’re really a fool.”
William’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, “This…can’t be possible! The Fool… The Fool! The Legacy of the Darkness Dragon!”
He pointed his sword at Brendel and shrilled, “You…you’re actually the Darkness Dragon.”
“No,” Brendel shook his head, “I’m Brendel.”
“Go to hell!” William’s face turned white and roared, “Heresy!” He raised the longsword in his hand and was about to charge at Brendel.
But his movements suddenly froze.
For he saw Brendel pulling out a short staff, about three inches long and made of glittering gold.
This was the relic that Brendel got from Amman – the God-Slaying Cone, a Divine Artifact that negated the effects of all magics, unnatural powers and of course-
Elemental Power.
Now, he was going to return it to the Holy Cathedral of Fire again. But not in the way they wanted.
“No, that’s impossible.” William could hardly believe what he was seeing. How in the world could something so coincidental happen?
Legend had it that the Godslayer Cone made by Farnezain was the nemesis of all spells under one condition– it had to successfully strike the enemy for it to be effective. In the hands of an enemy of the same rank, it was like a nuclear bomb back in his world. However, if Brendel really met an expert, it would not be a problem for them to deal with it.
But it was different for William, though.
This guy’s face was ashen, and cold sweat uncontrollably dripped down his forehead. This was his home turf– he should have had absolute dominance over Brendel. But now, it looked as if he was just a miserable piece of fish waiting to be slaughtered.
This was his Extreme Plains. A world that was woven little by little from the Lines of his Laws.
But for the same reason.
He had no way to escape Brendel’s attack.
“This choice” replied Brendel, “was made by you.” With that, he casually thrust the cone into the greyish-white ground –
The Godslayer Cone hit William’s Lines of Law.
“Ah!” William let out a startled cry in dismay. The whole world seemed to shake in dismay as and Brendel stood up and drew the Halran Gaia from behind him.
He felt the world crumbling and William’s Elemental Power slowly draining away.
“You have one last chance to live, William,” Brendel asked coldly as he raised his sword which burned with the same dark flame, “What was the real reason behind the Eleventh Months War?”
Even so, he looked at Brendel with his bloodshot eyes and snarled between gritted teeth, “You want to know? Dream on…….”
“I….would never tell you!”
“Then please go to hell.”
“This…”
As the world’s boundaries receded, the landscape amidst the forest of the Anker Mountains quickly reappeared.
“…is for Her Royal Highness.”
Brandel stepped forward, and the sharp blade of the Halran Gaia slashed through William’s body, incinerating it with black flames. This Sword Saint of the Holy Cathedral of Fire raised his head with a miserable cry, the silver light in his eyes faded away, leaving an expression of anger and disbelief on his face.
At that moment, the dimension collapsed completely…
