Chapter 559: The Hieroglyphic’s Content

Without the need for words, Lin Jin saluted the little officer before impatiently opening Daojun’s Hieroglyphic.
That little officer didn’t find his action shocking. The last time Lin Jin visited the palace, he had already realized that Lin Jin could tell who he actually was. Now that Lin Jin’s master was here on a visit, how could the legendary Curator who could make Daluo Temple submit, possibly be oblivious as to his identity?
That being the case, he returned a salute to Curator.
Instead of leaving, the little officer stood next to Lin Jin, and his eyes were fixated on the book.
Just like Feng Junwu, he was curious as well.
The little officer had met Daojun before, and he knew how capable Daojun was after becoming acquaintances. This hieroglyphic must hold some ground-breaking secrets.
Perhaps it was a cultivation method.
It was a pity that after years of research, he wasn’t able to make any progress.
Now that Curator was reading the hieroglyphic and appeared to be capable of understanding it, he surely wouldn’t let this opportunity go.
Lin Jin didn’t mind Feng Junwu and the little officer’s presence. He slowly turned the book open and words he had been so familiar with entered his vision.
Daojun’s Hieroglyphic.
It was indeed the work of Daojun because the book contained only words that Lin Jin knew from his hometown.
Soon, Lin Jin was deeply immersed in it. Daojun’s Hieroglyphic didn’t disappoint as it contained the information Lin Jin had been seeking.
It even contained what he did not expect to see.
The more Lin Jin read the more mesmerized he was. This, in turn, made the little officer and Feng Junwu, increasingly anxious.
Both of them had been suspicious of Curator’s ability to read the strange scribbles on Daojun’s Hieroglyphic.
Their suspicion was biting away at them relentlessly.
No doubt, Curator was able to understand the hieroglyphs. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be paying it this much attention. That was someone no one could fake, nor was there a need to.
The fact that Curator could read this book piqued their curiosity, and it morphed into an unbearable itch.
Lin Jin hadn’t noticed them at all.
There was just too much content in Daojun’s Hieroglyphic.
This was Daojun’s autobiography. The man was telling the reader about himself.
It wouldn’t be too much to say that Daojun was excellent at writing. This autobiography felt more like a fantasy novel than a diary, as it was filled with many interesting bits, as well as frightening parts.
Just as Lin Jin suspected, Daojun was an unfortunate transmigrator, just like him.
Even though he did not get the chance to meet Daojun personally, Lin Jin felt a sense of connection with this man
Such was the charm of one’s home.
Just like him, Daojun was an unknown character when he first came to this world. However, thanks to the Musem of Deadly Beasts, he was destined to rise up in fame, just like Lin Jin.
This was another one of Lin Jin’s suspicions as well. Daojun’s Hieroglyphic verified the correctness of most, if not all of his suspicions.
This got Lin Jin interested in finding out more about what Daojun had to say later on.
Truth be told, Lin Jin felt that he was embarking on a similar path as Daojun once did. If all went well, in just a few years’ time, he would become a legendary expert just like Daojun once was, maybe even surpass in the process.
And yet, a person like Daojun still died in the end.
That felt horrible. This hieroglyphic was completed when Daojun was nearing his end. From his writing, Lin Jin could sense Daojun’s reluctance to accept his mortality.
For some reason, Lin Jin felt as if he was looking into a mirror; it felt as if he would repeat Daojun’s journey once more.
Lin Jin obviously didn’t hope to see that happen. Since he was given another chance at life, he should live it to the fullest, especially now that he was aware of immortal cultivation. He should be trying to research that and cultivate himself.
Daojun had done just that. However, right after achieving immortality, when he wanted to eliminate devils like Patriarch Xue Pao, he accidentally revealed his immortal’s aura and attracted the Rank 9 immortal devouring beast. Although Daojun was strong enough to fight it off, he was severely injured in the process. Due to his damaged core, his lifespan was greatly diminished, and he died a sorrowful death shortly after.
Lin Jin knew he might be walking down the same path, but the only difference was, he had someone else’s experience to learn from.
In Daojun’s painting of the immortal devouring beast, he had mentioned that to stand up to this creature, immortality wasn’t enough. One should possess a Rank 9 pet beast.
That was the reminder Daojun left behind.
Lin Jin felt he should be working on that in the future. Now that Xiao Huo was Rank 5, he was to think of a method to help him advance to Rank 6 then.
To others, promoting a Rank 5 to Rank 6 may be impossible, but not for Lin Jin.
Although it was quite challenging, there was still a way to make it come true.
That wasn’t all to Daojun’s Hieroglyphic. Besides his autobiography, the hieroglyphics contained much other information as well, including stories about his friends from back then, as well as his foes.
It was an exciting read. The hieroglyphic even described details about Daojun and his lovers, which came as an eyesore to Lin Jin.
Due to how absorbed Lin Jin was, he failed to realize how much time he spent reading the book.
God knows how many hours had passed since he started reading. This entire time, both Feng Junwu and the little officer were struggling to put up with their anxiety.
They were both sure that Curator was able to understand the hieroglyphs, so they wanted to ask questions. However, after seeing how engrossed Curator was, it didn’t seem appropriate for them to break his focus.
These hours were spent in agony.
In between, the princes Feng Zishan and Feng Ziqian came to pay their respects. In fact, they only came to visit because they heard Curator had arrived.
Alas, Feng Junwu paid them no heed.
Feng Junwu had a rich experience in dealing with people, so how could he be oblivious to what his sons were planning? At the moment, he was like a cat on a hot tin roof so he didn’t have time for them. Hence, his only response was an order for them to wait outside.
After all, wasn’t Feng Junwu also waiting as well?
It slowly became clear to Feng Junwu that he had underestimated the time Curator needed to read the book.
The book had more than ten thousand characters. It even included some of the secrets of the museum and the Visitation Hall, as well as information about his six disciples.
Just the section about the museum and Visitation Hall’s secret took up quite a lot of Lin Jin’s time. He dedicated a considerable level of attention to these parts, and he would venture into the museum with his psyche to verify the writings.
That took up a lot of time.
He did not expect himself to enter into a meditative state, which lasted for two consecutive days.
Feng Junwu couldn’t possibly last as long as two days. He had gone to bed, leaving the little officer to stay back and keep watch on their guest. That little officer was a Xuanwu monster so he was able to notice Curator’s meditative state. This was why he refrained from bothering him. Not only that, but he even stopped other people like Feng Junwu from disturbing Curator.
Others may not be aware of the state Curator was in, but he did.
To everyone’s surprise, what was supposed to be a sunny day was changed when they noticed a dark cloud approaching from the horizon.
There were a few wild geese flying in the sky. When they accidentally came in contact with this greyish fog, their blood was immediately sucked dry and their withered corpses fell out of the sky.
Wherever the greyish fog passed, death aura would follow, killing everything it touched.
