Chapter 1608: Graveguarding Palace
Dignified Lava Beast led the way, charging past the glaring red reminder.
Trail blazed, Celestial Demonic Emperor and Perpetual Demonic Emperor did not want to lose out, and followed his lead in.
The three demonic emperors were in now.
Wu Yu and Wu Jun were hanging around in the mist outside, staring at the red words and chewing it over.
"Let's go in. Nothing much to be afraid about. They've already gone in. If you ask me, this is some sort of test. Whoever can pass it will win the rewards of the Eternal Emperor Tomb." Wu Jun smiled.
The black sphere screamed danger, but this was no time to shirk away. Might as well be optimistic about it.
A test. It was possible. Wu Yu nodded. "In we go, then."
They walked in together, to avoid any accident which might pull them apart. The dangers of the Eternal Emperor Tomb aside, the other demonic emperors were also a very real threat that Wu Yu could not afford to overlook.
If Wu Jun fell into their hands, they were in trouble.
But as the two of them plunged into the sphere, Wu Yu found that Wu Jun had vanished from his sight!
He frowned and whirled around. The entrance had disappeared as well, and he was in complete darkness. He could not even see anything with the Eyes of Fire and Gold.
He was in pitch darkness.
He yelled, but got no response. His eyes seemed to have lost all meaning in this dark space. Even his voice carried far away into the distance. He had no idea where the end of this black space was.
To think that Wu Jun would be lost to him from the moment they entered. Or perhaps this was something about the Graveguarding Palace, that would break people up.
There was no way to leave either. Wu Yu could only begin to search in this dark space, flying all around.
With darkness all around him, Wu Yu soon found that even his sense of direction was hard to maintain. All he could do was to fly forwards. In a mere few days, Wu Yu felt that he was losing his mind.
The pure darkness was completely devoid of anything. No matter what Wu Yu did, there was no reaction or response. He felt like he was completely alone in this world.
After another few days, the darkness before his eyes finally began to fade, and he found himself facing what seemed to be a wall.
Wu Yu saw some candles a short ways away from him as well.
"This is a closed chamber?"
Wu Yu said alarmed, studying his circumstances.
He had been moving forward with great speed, covering unknowable distances. And now when there was light, he found himself surrounded by old walls. It was only a small chamber that held him.
"I flew for so long, and it was just circles within this chamber?" Wu Yu was completely bewildered, and he started to carefully examine his surroundings.
The chamber looked small, but it was nothing simple. Otherwise, it could not possibly have held him for so long.
He could see that the eight corners of this chamber were all lit by candles, throwing light and shadows around the room. There was a vaguely threatening air about them. Who knew how long these candles had been here?
The chamber walls were built out of weathered and battered bricks. They looked old, but they were no ordinary bricks. Immortal designs were inscribed all over them, great void immortal designs which Wu Yu did not know the use of. But he knew at least not to touch them recklessly.
The chamber was not big, but exuded an oppressive and stifling feel.
"See if I can open it first."
Besides the walls and candles, there was nothing in the chamber. He could not possibly stay here.
Wu Yu considered, then selected a wall to attack.
"Violent Art!"
"Submerged Cloud Seal!"
Wu Yu's buffs layered on top of each other, and his Submerged Cloud Seal blasted the wall he had chosen.
After a deafening bang, Wu Yu's eyes widened. The simple looking wall had not even changed at all after his attack. Not even an iota of dust had been shaken loose.
This old room was completely unchangeable. It flickered in the candlelight.
"What in the world is this place?"
Wu Yu carefully looked at the wall he had attacked. The great void immortal designs had not changed at all. It was as if his attack had been nothing more than a puff of air.
Even a pinhead-sized area of the wall held millions of immortal designs, and it was completely unshaken by Wu Yu's attacks.
Wu Yu felt that perhaps not even eternal immortal emperors would be able to break the chamber and leave. It seemed to be a jail, and a jail that was designed for eternal immortal emperors at that.
It was indeed difficult for Wu Yu to escape such a jail.
"I have to find out more about this place." Wu Yu sensed that he was in a tough spot. If he could not leave, then everything else was futile. The Eternal Emperor Tomb, eternal immortal emperorhood, all of it was but a daydream.
He started to test out his strongest powers, and was still unable to budge the wall even an inch. He forced himself to calm and rest. He analyzed his situation, and again studied the chamber.
The candlelight flickered and swayed, casting his shadow on the surrounding walls. Some of them were clearly outlined.
He began to think about this phenomenon. Could these candles or shadows have something to do with the way out?
After all, there was nothing else in the chamber besides the candles, the brick walls, and the shadows.
He turned his attention from the tangible to intangible.
At certain positions, Wu Yu's shadows would overlap. And at other times, he tried to walk close to one candle so his shadow would cover the other candles......
Wu Yu tried all kinds of methods, and time ticked by. It seemed to tick faster and faster.
A year, two years...
Five years, ten years...
No matter how much Wu Yu studied the candles and shadows, he made no headway. The shadows followed him around, but nothing else changed.
He felt trapped, fettered, and the feeling only intensified as more and more time passed.
No matter what he tried, nothing worked.
He even tried attacking the candles, but they were inextinguishable fires. Wu Yu's gut told him that these candles might be even harder to break than the walls.
Throughout, the people inside the Floating Dreams Pagoda would also come and help Wu Yu.
Full Moon of Nanshan and Ye Xixi were both diligent about it. They were also trapped with Wu Yu, and getting worried as more time passed. They too were the bearers of elite immortals' legacies. If they could not even reach eternal immortal emperor realm, that was a shame indeed.
They too racked their brains, but their ideas were equally ineffective.
In order to get out, Wu Yu had begun a careful inspection of every inch of the walls. Perhaps the secret to getting out was small but right in the open.
At this time, Wu Yu was beginning to feel that his chances of getting out were dwindling by the moment. However, he refused to give up.
"When we came in, wasn't there a reminder? Graveguarding Palace, Living Beings Not Allowed! This wouldn't be a jail, would it? One that is impossible to get out from." Ye Xixi fretted.
"We might really be trapped for eternity here. How could someone as handsome as me be so unlucky?" Full Moon of Nanshan's face was also full of uncharacteristic misery and dejection.
Their reactions were understandable. They had probably been trapped in here for 1000 years, with nothing changing at all, and all of their ideas exhausted.
If this continued, they might simply expire here.
Ye Xixi mentioned a jail, and Wu Yu believed it. Eternal Emperor Tomb and Graveguarding Palace looked like a final resting place indeed. Perhaps it was a one-way journey here.
Wu Yu too was in misery. If he had no way to get out, wouldn't that be terrible?
All he had that was related to the Eternal Emperor Tomb was the one remaining bronze pendant. But he had already tried it before, to no effect.
He began to speculate - perhaps both pendants were needed to work?
Wu Yu had no idea. If he had not lost the one bronze pendant before, maybe he would be in a better situation. But he would not blame Wu Jun, who he himself had dragged into this.
"1000 years have passed. What am I to do?"
The question was foremost in Wu Yu's mind. He realized he might die here, trapped!
