290- Handicapped (残了)
Qiao Wei Min didn’t fall to his death, but he did become handicapped.
When he woke up in the hospital afterwards, he already had one of his legs amputated. The hospital bills were also raised together by his well-intentioned neighbours, but even though they forked out the money, no one stayed in the hospital to take care of him.
Qiao Wei Min was completely lost, wailing and howling like inhuman beings in the hospital and making a ruckus. Too bad for him, the doctors all knew what kind of person he was and had already made preparations beforehand. They even recorded Qiao Wei Min’s condition upon entering the hospital, no matter how much trouble he made, it had no effects on anyone.
Meanwhile, ever since the Qiao family’s reputation fell, Qiao Zi Zhou felt disgraced because of it. He hadn’t left his house in half a month.
Although Qiao Wei Min was very miserly with his daughter, he was very willing with his son, so Qiao Zi Zhou wasn’t lacking money. He very swiftly rented an apartment near school and lived on his own. However, in school, he naturally lost all his face1 . He only hoped to quickly pass through the next two years of high school and leave Hua Ning County, this accursed place.
Qiao Wei Min was quite pitiful now without either of his children by his side, a man who didn’t even know how to cook like him would starve from time to time.
He would insult Jing Yun Zhao outwardly, but he no longer had the ability to personally go find trouble for her . He could only drown in his sorrows every day, and not long after, there was no longer a sober moment with him. He even took several trips to the hospital because of alcohol poisoning.
No matter how wretched Qiao Wei Min’s life became, no outsiders were able to give him even a single thought of pity.
While Qiao Wei Min’s life was difficult, Jing Tie Jun and Wang Xin Fang’s were even worse.
The villagers couldn’t see people when they lowered their heads, but would see them the moment they looked up2. They usually needed each other’s help to be able to continue their livelihoods, but because of this family’s concealment, they had pretty much offended everyone in the village.
Not long after the couple returned, they received a complaint from the prosecutor’s office for fraud.
This matter was spread too far and far too wide, its influence wasn’t good, so there would definitely be people who’d show up to suppress them, just so they would be able to clear their own name.
The doctor involved was also dragged down to the office, and with him to act as witness, it was even harder to question the couple’s crimes. Just scamming Jing Yun Zhao was one thing, but it also affected the general public. Especially because they manipulated the general public’s pity for theirs and Jing Yun Zhao’s relationship and scammed more than 100,000 yuan in donation!
As for that Mrs He, because her identity was special, it ended up unsettled.
They two were sentenced to five and a half years of jail time, and because their children weren’t actual orphans, could only be taken into care of their relatives.
Unfortunately, since the Jing family’s reputation was already putrid, the relatives took the two younger ones, Jing Ming Kai and Jing Ling, under their wing for the sake of their many years of friendship, they naturally didn’t feel comfortable about it.
Jing Ming Kai was previously the little King of his household, now that his parents weren’t around, he still continued to maintain his current disposition, so it was naturally he would suffer some hardships. Meanwhile, Jing Ling was a little smarter and her mouth was sweeter, but her bit of smartness still wasn’t enough in other’s eyes. She was still in middle school, so her expenses were still bearable, but for her to continue on to high school was another matter entirely. She would firmly be gripped between the jaws of her relatives.
The son she held the most importance for was being raised by others, so she was practically hateful to death in prison.
However, while Jing Ming Kai suffered a little with another family, he was adamant against returning to the old Jing family home.
Because, other than Jing Xia, there was nothing there.
The Jing family didn’t have a lot of relatives, ones that were willing to take care of them were even lesser. Moreover, rather than live in other’s charity, Jing Xiu was more willing to live in her old home. At least she didn’t have to be self conscious about doing things and facing others unhappy looks
As for the household chores, she was long used to doing them on her own; it was still manageable.
Although Jing Yun Zhao hated the Jing family to the core, but she still paid some attention to Jing Xiu and continuously let someone make enquiries about her situation.
