Yu Luoyin felt that if he were to recount the most embarrassing day of his eighteen years of life, it would probably be the day when the college admission notices came out.
It had nothing to do with failing the exam. On the contrary, he had “fulfilled his wish” and received the admission notice from Lan University.
However, the person he had agreed to go together with had the name of “Northern Engineering University” written clearly behind it.
For a moment, Yu Luoyin felt like a clown being toyed with.
From the hospital to the college entrance examination, and then to the release of the admission notice in the past three months, Bai Xunyin had been acting with him all along.
Despite his self-proclaimed intelligence, Yu Luoyin had been deceived all along, feeling like a fool.

Yu Luoyin waited for an hour before Bai Xunyin finally returned.
The girl didn’t even carry an umbrella, her beauty obscured by the mist of rain, appearing distant and aloof.
He had been prepared to blurt out the words he had been rehearsing, but at that moment, they seemed to choke in his throat.
Yu Luoyin couldn’t say anything. He could only force himself to maintain his tough exterior, seeming invincible.
Then Bai Xunyin’s words pierced through him like a thousand arrows.
Yu Luoyin had always received more admiration than others since he was young, but he had overlooked more, thinking he had already become accustomed to it—yet he never imagined that there would be a kind of disregard that came from “Bai Xunyin’s disgust,” which was even harder for him to accept than all the previous dismissals.
The rain heavily downpoured that day.
Summer rain usually felt warm when it hit the skin, but that day it felt particularly cold.
After forcing himself to leave with his so-called “pride” and “self-esteem,” Yu Luoyin couldn’t help but lean against the wall and slide down.
His face was cold, his black eyes deep, sitting in the rain for a long, long time.
Actually, the most painful part wasn’t now.
It was in the time to come, where he had to pretend like nothing had happened.
Those around him, Li Yuan, Zhou Xinsui, Lu Ye… all knew about him and Bai Xunyin, and naturally knew about Bai Xunyin’s “carefree” departure to the North.
For a moment, their gazes seemed to contain indescribable sympathy.
But Yu Luoyin just found it laughable.

He casually packed some belongings and boarded the plane. Yu Luoyin bought a flight from Linlan to New York, then a connecting flight to Puerto Rico.
The journey was over ten hours long, and he had booked a first-class seat, intending to catch up on sleep once on the plane.
He hadn’t slept well for several nights; although his eyes were extremely tired, whenever he closed them, his mind became incredibly alert, making it impossible for him to fall asleep.
In a dream-like state, the girl’s distant eyes and slender figure seemed to sway before him.
Yu Luoyin could only bear it no longer and opened his eyes, his breathing becoming somewhat heavy.
The veins on the back of his fair hand bulged, as he forcibly suppressed the violent and sinister emotions in his heart—sometimes, he truly wished he could drag Bai Xunyin down to hell with him.
To hell with Lan University and Engineering University, they could all go to hell.
But from childhood to adulthood, no matter how impulsive he was, he had learned to restrain himself.
During the long flight of over ten hours, anything could happen.
For example, this flight to New York was the most memorable one for Yu Luoyin.
Actually, first-class cabins usually had a luxurious meal served by flight attendants, but in order to stretch his gradually numb body, Yu Luoyin decided to go to the food cart to eat.
There weren’t many people in the first-class cabin; after all, the high price was not something ordinary people could afford.
When Yu Luoyin walked in, he saw about ten people.
He randomly found a window seat, ordered a meal, and couldn’t tell whether the airplane meal was delicious or not. He just chewed mechanically with no expression on his face.
But he didn’t expect that even with so few people scattered around, there could still be a problem.
An elderly person in the first-class cabin suddenly tripped while going to the bathroom, falling to the ground and unable to get up. Their body was convulsing like they had epilepsy, with an abnormal purplish-blue color on their face, unable to breathe properly.
The people around started screaming one after another, perhaps out of fear of getting involved in an accident, so no one dared to help.
Only a middle-aged woman who seemed to be the elderly person’s daughter knelt beside them, crying incessantly and speaking a series of English words.
Yu Luoyin furrowed his brows at the commotion and walked over to take a look.
What he saw was a scene that he would never forget for years to come.
The elderly person, whose face was contorted and turning purple, seemed on the verge of passing out. Family members and flight attendants surrounded them, along with onlookers. The once quiet first-class cabin now resembled a marketplace.
And the emergency medical team on the plane had not arrived yet.
Yu Luoyin felt short of breath when he saw the elderly person’s complexion.
It was like… watching a living life gradually disappear before his eyes
And he was powerless, as was everyone else.
Until a middle-aged man in a blue and white striped shirt squeezed into the crowd and knelt down in front of the elderly person with a thump.
He was a white man, thin, handsome, with a prominent nose, wearing gold-rimmed glasses. Now, his face was filled with anxiety.
“San, bring my stethoscope over here!”
Yu Luoyin heard him say to the woman next to him in English, and only then did he realize that the man was a doctor.
In an instant, the elderly person’s daughter, who had seemed hopeless, had hope ignited in her heart. Her eyes sparkled with tears as she thanked the man incessantly.
But the doctor didn’t have time to pay attention. He just furrowed his brow and performed emergency measures on the elderly person.
Yu Luoyin heard the doctor’s deep voice say, “The old man choked because of the fall, and he can’t breathe because of the phlegm stuck in his throat.”
“Oh my god!” The assistant named San exclaimed.
“Edward, we don’t have a suction machine in our medical kit!”
Following this statement was the most shocking scene for Yu Luoyin.
Edward, with a frown, leaned down without hesitation and clasped the elderly person’s jaw, then moved in close amidst the surrounding gasps.
He used his own mouth to suck out the phlegm lodged in the old man’s throat.
The previously noisy surroundings instantly fell silent, even the elderly person’s daughter was stunned.
The process lasted about ten minutes until the impurity was removed, and the old man’s complexion gradually returned to normal.
Doctor Edward wiped away the mess with a tissue handed over by San, then continued to check the old man’s heart, lungs, and any symptoms of concussion.
After finding everything safe, he handed over the follow-up work to his assistant and went to clean up in the bathroom.
Later on, the old man and his daughter kept thanking Edward, wanting to pay him handsomely. But Edward had only one thing to say—
“If you were in the hospital, there would be rules and regulations for charging fees. But here, what I did to save a life and relieve pain is simply my duty and calling. There’s no need to thank me.”
“Saving lives and relieving pain is my duty and calling.”
No one knew how much impact this sentence had on Yu Luoyin.
There was a time when he had tried every means to relieve a girl’s pain, wanting Bai Xunyin to recover, wanting her to forgive him, and love him.
Compared to Edward’s selflessness, he felt like a stinking worm in a sewer.
Always scheming, always expecting rewards, yet still acting self-righteous.
No wonder Bai Xunyin hated him and wanted to leave him.
In an instant, Yu Luoyin had a feeling of enlightenment, and his pent-up heart seemed to have a small opening…
At least it wasn’t so damn uncomfortable anymore.
Before getting off the plane, Yu Luoyin approached Edward and, amidst the latter’s surprised gaze, said to him in standard English, “Is being a doctor a profession that can bring about spiritual redemption for people?”
Edward was stunned for a moment, then smiled.
He stood up and, before getting off the plane with his suitcase, left Yu Luoyin with only one sentence.
“Young man, being a doctor is about helping others. It’s only yourself who can bring about spiritual redemption.”
As Yu Luoyin watched his figure disappear into the distance, a hint of perplexity flashed between his brows and eyes.
He felt like he vaguely understood something, yet also felt like he didn’t.
But Yu Luoyin couldn’t forget the feeling he had when he tried to make Bai Xunyin speak up in the past.
Nor could he forget the shock Edward had brought him today.
If he truly grew into a good person, someone who could relieve everyone’s pain…
Then, one day, when he saw the little girl again, would she forgive him?
