Book 5: Chapter 3: Demon Race's Movement
Lin Province was the easternmost part of Nine Provinces and Ten Lands, even closer to the east than the land which was actually named East Land in Ten Lands.
This was once the most prosperous state among the Nine Provinces, but in the battle with the demon race thousands of years ago, the residents here were massacred by demons. After more than a thousand years of recuperation, it has gradually rejuvenated its vitality, but still unmatched to its past.
The dividing line between the Nine Provinces and Ten Lands and the Demon Realm was also here. Although the Demon Realm was located in another space, the space rift connected to it is on the edge of Lin Province. Unless the demon world has a superpower that could directly break the space and teleport, otherwise they could only pass through this rift to invade.
However, at present, no one could do it. Bai Qiuran has also asked the Wise Immortal and got the answer that even a Land Immortal couldn’t teleport between the two realms.
Except for the Soul Takers who worked for Heaven, the person who could do this kind of thing must be a super boss in the Immortal Realm.
Naturally, there was no such person in the Demon Realm. Perhaps there had been one before, but they must have been in the tomb by now. Otherwise, they would certainly not have watched Bai Qiuran slaughter the demon prince and beat the demon emperor.
This kind of border was naturally guarded. Since the last war between the human race and the demon race, the sects of the Righteous Alliance, under the coordination of the Heavenly Army, has transferred people to guard it, rotating every few decades.
This time the demon’s raid was unexpected and not all the garrisoned personnel were elites from the Heavenly Army but contained many people from other sects, so several towns were lost.
All these towns were guarded jointly by disciples from the small sect. They were not large in number and their cultivation bases were not superb. In addition, the organization and discipline of these cultivators were basically weak, so it’s no surprise that they were defeated by the demon army.
However, after the demon race’s operation, the people of the Heavenly Army also immediately mobilized, and now the two sides stood still and confronted near the border.
The Heavenly Army currently guarding Lin Province was led by the battalion commander Zhao Ruize of Heaven Blade Camp, which ranked third in among the five battalions of Heavenly Army. Basically, this battalion used weapons such as blades as standard equipment.
When Bai Qiuran saw the battalion commander, he had just returned from an inspection on the nearby tower. Seeing Bai Qiuran waiting outside his command post, the battalion commander of the Heavenly Army did not dare to neglect, so he quickly invited Bai Qiuran in.
“Sword Patriarch, please sit down.”
Zhao Ruize asked Bai Qiuran to take a seat in the command post and asked:
“Sword Patriarch has received news from the leader, right?”
“Yes.”
Bai Qiuran nodded.
“I received it on the way here.”
The Righteous Alliance naturally had a leader, so did the Evil Alliance. For Bai Qiuran who served as a deterrent strategic weapon in the Righteous Alliance, only the alliance leader could mobilize him. Of course, this was just a nominal procedure, but Bai Qiuran generally still gave face to the leader.
The current leader of the Righteous Alliance was Jade-Faced Buddha. In fact, the first introduced leader in the Evil Alliance was Su Xiangxue, but the latter declined it. The remnants of the Blood God Sect came up to take the poisition, only to be killed by Bai Qiuran, so for now, they could only let the Ghostly Old Man of the Yin Ling Sect take over.
As for the Heavenly Demon Sect, the master and apprentice were not reliable ones, one ran around all day, looking for someone to drink and fight, and the other was a man except for her body.
When the Evil Alliance chose the leader, the five major sects unanimously elected Bai Qiuran as the leader, but he refused on the grounds that his cultivation level was too low, so they had to select another one from the five sects.
Among the five sects, Zhao Tianzong, the commander of the Heavenly Army, was a pure soldier. Qiu Yuxuan, the dean of Xuanfa Academy, was a technical madman, and Banjue, the leader of Jade Tower, was more like a businessman than a leader.
As a result, the Jade-Faced Buddha, who was well-known, high in prestige, and calm when things happen, became the leader.
Originally, Jue Yunzi’s qualifications as a leader were also very good, but he was helplessly disgusted and offended many colleagues. He was also a troll and looked unremarkable. So when the votes were finally settled, he not only failed to elect the leader, but also was told that the only vote he got was because he had voted for himself. It was very miserable.
“I sent spies to investigate. This time the Demon Race may not really want to fight the Human Race.”
Zhao Ruize didn’t waste any time and started talking about business.
“Oh?”
Bai Qiuran asked:
“Why do you think so?”
“I have not experienced the era of demon race invasion, but in order to guard against the demon race, I checked all the existing battle records about the demon race and did a lot of research on it. In the past wars, the demon race usually had an innate attitude of contempt for humans. The mortals in the towns that were taken down by them were either treated as slaves or were kept as food reserves.”
Bai Qiuran had seen what Zhao Ruize said, so he nodded.
“But this time, according to the situation reported by the spies, in the towns occupied by the demons, instead of making things difficult for humans, they are providing food and water to the prisoners. They didn’t even force them to do hard labor, but let the lower-level demons did these works. Except for the few cultivators who died during the first wave of conflict, there seems to be no human death this time.”
Zhao Ruize said:
“It feels like… they are doing something to show us that they are not hostile this time.”
“Originally this demon invasion was already very strange.”
Bai Qiuran said:
“Do you know that the Demon Emperor just passed away?”
“what?”
Zhao Ruize was taken aback for a moment, then went into shock.
“The Demon Emperor is dead?”
Bai Qiuran nodded. It seemed that Su Xiangxue’s intelligence was first-hand, and in the Demon Realm, her intelligence network was indeed better.
“The Demon Emperor is dead, why do these demons still dare to fight against the humans?”
Zhao Ruize rubbed his chin.
“Are their mind filled with shit… or there are other plans.”
“I’m afraid it’s the latter case.”
Bai Qiuran said:
“Otherwise, let alone a Demon King, anyone with the right mind can’t perform such operations.”
“No matter what they think, anyway, Nine Provinces and Ten Lands are the home of our human race.”
Zhao Ruize firmly said:
“Uninvited guests will be sent back when they come!”
“Yes, but don’t worry.”
Bai Qiuran said:
“I will go to the towns occupied by the demon race to investigate and see what tricks they are playing.”
