Chapter 35 - This Precious Knife Is Quite New

Guo DangLi, a second-rate hooligan, had seen a lot of old gangster movies. He had even studied Chen JinNan extensively, hoping to learn from him.
Honestly, Guo DangLi had been unhappy with Zheng PingQing for a long time now. But Zheng PingQing had always been so aggressive and domineering that Guo DangLi didn’t dare offend him.
It was only when their senior year began that Zheng PingQing started losing his momentum. Zheng PingQing had stopped participating in fights and even started studying with the top students. Zheng PingQing no longer looked like Class 8’s Boss.
So Guo DangLi’s thoughts suddenly came alive. Zheng PingQing and Lin Qian’s contract had been posted online last night. With Zheng PingQing’s image being severely damaged, Guo DangLi felt that a new era with him as the leader was just on the horizon. He had informed his brother Li Gao that same night about his plan. Then this morning, they all gathered by the school gates, intending to confront Zheng PingQing. Guo DangLi had been filled with expectation that the No.12 High School throne would finally be his.
So when Zheng PingQing patted Lin Qian on the shoulder, Guo DangLi was: “????”
Li Gao and the rest of Guo DangLi’s brothers: “????”
Guo DangLi was used to be overbearing in school. The only person he gave face to was Zheng PingQing, who had a more powerful aura. Everyone else, especially the nerds in the higher classes, weren’t even on his radar.
So when Lin Qian said ‘This Boss will treat you well in the future.’, Guo DangLi immediately felt that he was being swindled by both Zheng PingQing and Lin Qian. He got so angry his head was practically smoking. Guo DangLi angrily yelled: “Are you two looking for death? Don’t think I wouldn’t dare start hitting people, even if we are in front of the school gate!”
Xu Yao, who was very nervous, shouted: “Hey, hey! Take one step closer, and we’ll start shouting!”
Guo DangLi laughed. “You stupid bookworms, only knowing how to tattle on the teachers. Why don’t you go back to sucking your mother’s tits!”
Xu Yao, who was holding a calcium drink specifically for children: “….”
Lin Qian held out a hand to prevent Xu Yao from retorting. With a smile, Lin Qian told Guo DangLi: “If we hadn’t been standing at the school gates, you’d be already kneeling and calling me father.”
Li Gao couldn’t take it anymore. Without waiting for Guo DangLi’s reply, Li Gao rushed past him and towards Lin Qian. With a finger harshly stabbing towards Lin Qian’s chest, Li Gao said: “It looks like somebody needs to beat you to death, why don’t I help you with that…”
But before Li Gao could continue, Zhang PingQing suddenly grabbed the finger that was about to poke Lin Qian on the chest. Then with one quick and hard pull, Zheng PingQing forcibly dislocated Li Gao’s finger with an audible ‘click.’ Then Li Gao, who acted very intimidating, uttered a shrill scream: “Ow——”
The faces of Guo DangLi and his brothers paled. To be honest, their ‘fights’ were nothing more than posturing. They would usually just show off with a few exaggerated punches, not unlike those you see on TV. This was very much different from what Zheng PingQing was doing now.
Zheng PingQing put on a fake smile and asked: “Is that how you should be talking to your new Boss?”
An ashen Li Gao weakly tried to pry his dislocated finger from Zheng PingQing’s grip, but it was evident that Zheng PingQing held fast. Li Gao then tried to move away, but it immediately caused immense pain to shoot through him.
“D-don’t, don’t, don’t——” Li Gao repeatedly stammered, a thin layer of cold sweat gradually appearing on his forehead. He didn’t dare move anymore.
Seeing this, Guo DangLi put on a stern voice and stepped forward. He shouted: “Let him go.”
Lin Qian looked at him in askance. “Take one more step, and his finger will be rendered useless.”
Li Gao immediately crumbled. “Brother Guo, don’t come over, please don’t come over…”
Guo DangLi: “….”
Lin Qian did absolutely nothing to stop Zheng PingQing. Instead, he looked at Li Gao with a mocking expression. “What did you say you were you going to help me with again?”
Li Gao: “…”
Zheng PingQing tightened his grip on Li Gao’s finger. Li Gao gasped, then blurted out: “Boss, I-I was going help everyone know that you’re the Boss.”
Guo DangLi looked at his second-in-command in disbelief. He felt that his position as their leader had just been seriously insulted.
However, a greater insult was still to come. Lin Qian looked very dissatisfied and said: “Brother, it was you who started this. Now you suddenly want to call me Boss?”
Li Gao: “…” No, look at his poor index finger. It was obviously Zheng PingQing that struck the first blow, okay!
But he had nowhere to shout his grievances, so he could only shamelessly ask: “Then what do you want me to do?”
The idle Lin Qian leisurely replied: “I just said it moments ago: Call me dad.”
Li Gao: “…”
Guo DangLi could no longer handle this humiliation. Who in No.12 didn’t know that Li Gao was his younger brother? If Li Gao actually called Lin Qian ‘dad,’ how can he still show his face in the future?
Guo DangLi ignored Li Gao’s plight and angrily yelled: “How about I teach you a fucking lesson!” Then suddenly rushed forward.
Guo DangLi might be tall and intimidating, but in actuality, he mostly relied on brute force rather than actual skill when fighting. So now, with Guo DangLi becoming so angry, all he could think of doing was running towards Lin Qian like a crazy bull and knocking him over.
Xu Yao was shocked and hurriedly yelled: “You fucking stop——”
Xu Yao was just about to take action when he saw Lin Qian throw his schoolbag to the ground and rush to meet Guo DangLi head-on. When Lin Qian was close enough, Guo DangLi immediately raised his fist to punch Lin Qian, but then he saw Lin Qian suddenly jump. With his long legs raised high, Lin Qian spun his body, and with a crisp sweep, directly kicked Guo DangLi on the shoulder.
Just listen to that loud ‘bang’ when flesh and bone collided. Guo DangLi, like a trembling calf, fell heavily to the side. He was in so much pain he couldn’t even make a sound. He could only twitch on the ground like a dying cow.
The entire fight only lasted for ten seconds. Guo DangLi’s other younger brothers who had intended to step forward and help, didn’t even have enough time to process the situation when their leader had already been KO’d.
And his death was so tragic too.
All the younger brothers collectively gulped, then quietly stepped back.
Everyone looked at Lin Qian in horror. Although Zheng PingQing was ruthless, he had been the Boss of Class 8, so his ferocity was to be expected. But Lin Qian was the student representative, the nerd in the top class! Look at him; Lin Qian is a pretty boy. Shouldn’t he be weak and delicate?
Why does Lin Qian suddenly have such a professional posture? And so much strength? Guo DangLi was known for being the biggest among the entire year. Yet he was kicked to the ground by Lin Qian so easily?
Amongst the deathly silence, Li Gao finally took the lead and shouted out: “Dad——”
Lin Qian turned his head and looked back at Li Gao. With a smile filled with fatherly love, he said: “Ah, what an obedient child.”
At his words, Zheng PingQing released Li Gao’s finger. Full of pride, he said to Lin Qian: “As expected, you’re still a precious knife that hasn't aged one bit.”
After thinking about it for a bit, Lin Qian corrected him: “No, I’m more like a new, upgraded knife.” In their last life Lin Qian, who was very competitive, went and studied karate during university to beat Zheng PingQing. Because of this, Zheng PingQing also ended up learning some self-defense.
However, Guo DangLi interpreted their words differently. So the reason Zheng PingQing followed Lin Qian wasn’t that he wanted to study, but because Lin Qian defeated him.
Everyone sucked in a breath of cold air.
Lin Qian shook his head, and helplessly sighed. “These two boys were so befuddled they needed a good smacking to prevent them from going astray.”
Lin Qian then walked towards Guo DangLi, who was still rolling on the ground. Lin Qian crouched down and asked: “Poor child, why don’t you be obedient and call me dad.”
Guo DangLi’s heart was already frightened to the extreme, but his dignity as a leader prevented him from opening his mouth. He kept silent for a long time.
Lin Qian crouched lower. “Think a little bit. Right now, it’s still dad. But wait a little later, and you’ll need to call me grandpa. Then your younger brothers will be older than you. Are you sure you want to be a grandson?”
Guo DangLi: “…”
Bandit! This man is a bandit!
Then, a loud cry shouted from afar: “Hey! What’s going on there? Why are you all milling around the gate?”
Everyone turned around and saw the head of security walking towards them. It turned out that some students saw the little gangsters of Class 7 blocking the way and went to security to complain.
In the past, Guo DangLi hated the school security guards the most. But at this moment, he sincerely thanked the school for having security guards.
For the first time in his life, Guo DangLi felt that this scene of the chief security guard running towards him was so brilliant and glorious. He almost cried out ‘Help me——’
But before he could even open his mouth, Lin Qian had stood up and pointed down towards him. Lin Qian said to the chief security guard: “Chief Wang, he and his gang are blocking me.”
Guo DangLi: “…!!!”
Guo DangLi’s brothers: “…!!!”
Guo DangLi shouted: “Do you think the chief security guard is blind——”
Guo DangLi hadn’t even finished his sentence yet when Chief Wang kicked his prone body. He started scolding: “It’s you again! Doing nothing but fighting all day, is it not enough for you to bully your own classmates? Now you even dare to harass Lin Qian? Do you think I can’t handle you?”
Feeling extremely wronged, Guo DangLi yelled: “I didn’t…”
Brother Guo Li also tried to defend him: “Chief, Brother Li didn’t hit him! It was Lin Qian who beat him up. Don’t you see that he’s on the ground?”
Guo DangLi: “….” Although my younger brother was telling the truth, his words were particularly ear-piercing.
After hearing all this, Chief Wang looked down at Guo DangLi who was on the ground covered in dust. He gave Lin Qian a doubtful glance.
Lin Qian slightly hunched his shoulders and made a cute face. “I didn’t. He threw himself on the ground when he saw me.”
Guo DangLi: “…” A top student actually lied in public!
Chief Wang turned back to Guo DangLi with a dangerous glint in his eyes. With a cold voice, he said: “Well! You bastards bully your classmates and even lie about it, eh? Does Lin Qian look like he can beat you? I have to report you…”
All of Guo DangLi’s younger brothers turned pale, and Guo DangLi was even more flustered. He already had two major demerits on his head. If he got another one, he would be kicked out of school.
However, what made Guo DangLi even more desperate was Chief Wang’s attitude. He understood that no matter what he said, he would never be able to compare to Lin Qian’s word.
Guo DangLi, who was a great big bully, felt the anger and unfairness of being bullied by others for the very first time.
After a while, Lin Qian finally interrupted Chief Wang’s scolding: “Chief Wang, in the end, he fell all on his own. He didn’t actually start a fight.”
But Chief Wang had long been dissatisfied with Guo DangLi and his little gang. “We should still teach them a lesson…”
“But if word gets out, it wouldn’t look good on you. If people found out that students are always making trouble near the school gates, maybe people will start to think that the security guards aren’t working hard enough…”
Lin Qian had been exposed to adult society for many years already. In just a few sentences, he managed to worm his way deep into Chief Wang psyche, successfully making him hesitate.
Seeing his hesitation, Lin Qian smiled. “If you’re worried, you might as well hand them over to me.”
Chief Wang finally relented. “What can you do?”
Lin Qian gave him a brilliant smile.
Guo DangLi and his younger brothers suddenly felt cold sweat drip down their backs.
Chief Wang looked at Lin Qian, then told Guo DangLi that he had to study hard. Inwardly though, he couldn’t help sighing. Ah, a good student is a good student to the very end. Great at studying, but still too naive for their own good. Even their solution to fixing these good-for-nothing hooligans was naive. Chief Wang believed that the only way these little bastards would listen to Lin Qian was if some supernatural being possessed them.
However, it was probably better if the students policed themselves. So Guo DangLi ended up signing a contract with Lin Qian. With this, Chief Wang could only let them go. With a cold hum, he didn’t forget to remind Guo DangLi one last time: “You better behave, or you’ll be kicked out of school.”
At the beginning of the day, Guo DangLi and his brothers were high-spirited. Who knew that after a few hours, they would end up hanging their heads dejectedly.
Lin Qian waited for Chief Wang to leave before he unfolder the contract in his hands. “I’ll add another clause to this agreement. In the next monthly test, everyone has to get at least 50 points higher than their previous results. If you don’t do this, don’t bother calling me dad, and just be an obedient little grandson.”
Guo DangLi: “….”
Li Gao and the other younger brothers: “…..”
Lin Qian then introduced them to Zheng PingQing: “Oh, and this is your other dad.”
Xu Yao: “…!!!” You want to be dads together with him?!
Zhang PingQing wrinkled his brow. “I don’t want such sons.”
Lin Qian pointed towards Xu Yao: “He’s your uncle.”
Xu Yao: “…”
Xu Yao, in a rare moment of solidarity, agreed with Zheng PingQing. He said: “I don’t want such big nephews either.”
The author has something to say:
Xu Yao: I don’t want this kind of family. Smoking.jpg
I just want to say, yes Lin Qian roundhouse kicking someone is badass, but so is Zheng PingQing for dislocating a finger that was about to touch his wife.
Also, yikes. I didn’t know high school fights could get this intense.
