Chapter 53: Distilled Water, Looking for Food
Bell continued to explain to everyone.
“Alright, everyone, there’s nothing we can do about this.”
“Moreover, we are not drinking it directly.”
“Instead, we need to adopt some methods.”
“The water in the urine is absorbed by the sand in the pit. Because the temperature here is too high, and the plastic sheet is covering the pit, the water droplets that evaporate will condense on the surface of the membrane. When there are enough water droplets, they will naturally slide down to the sunken area and drip into the canteen.”!!
“Actually, it’s no different from distilled water.”
The audience couldn’t help but comment.
“Good lord, I feel like the distilled water is suddenly not that clean.”
Bell ignored the heated discussions on the screen.
He was very tired.
He returned to the pit he had dug before and lay down.
“We can rest in peace for a while. Sleeping will let us save our energy and get past the hottest period of time.”
“Most importantly, it will take some time to distill and get water.”
“If you think it’s boring, you can come and take a look later.”
With that, Bell closed his eyes and wanted to rest.
However, this was the desert after all. Moreover, the weather was so hot that there was no way to rest properly. Bell could only lie down and toss for a while.
In the end, he barely made it past the high temperature.
He had thought that many of the audience in the live-stream would leave during his rest.
Unexpectedly, not only did the audience not leave, but his popularity increased instead.
“A certain broadcaster has slept for millions of years.”
There were some comments teasing Bell, but Bell only smiled.
He rubbed his face and stood up to watch the chat.
“Alright, it’s about time. I can clearly feel that the temperature is not as high as before.”
“Let’s see how much water we have collected. If everything goes well, there should be a portion already.”
Bell got up and walked to the sandpit, carefully moving the surrounding sand away. Then, he saw that the water had only filled two centimeters of the water canteen.
Although it was not a lot, it could hydrate him for a while.
“Everyone, it worked. Although this water is not much, it is indeed distilled water. Moreover, it can’t be wasted. It can let you live for a while longer.”
With that, Bell picked up the canteen and drank it all.
It was already late afternoon. Although Bell was walking at the bottom of the canyon, there were still no dense plants.
In the face of the harsh natural environment, apart from the test of food and water, psychological quality was also a huge problem.
Once they felt despair, it was easy to make a wrong judgment and lose their lives.
Bell had been trying his best to remain optimistic.
Looking into the distance, Bell seemed to have made a new discovery. He hurried forward.
The audience in the live-stream was interested when they saw Bell’s actions. They looked in the direction Bell had gone.
Not far away, there were a few slightly yellowed reeds.
The camera zoomed in.
Bell leaned down and looked at the reeds in front of him as he explained to the live-stream.
“Look what we found. A few reeds.”
“This is good news.”
“Under normal circumstances, reeds will only grow in areas with abundant water resources.”
“In this desert where there is no river, it means that there must be an underground river below this reed.”
“Although these reeds are not tall, their roots are very deep. They can even be three to five meters long.”
“It is also because of this that we can see such plants in a place like the desert.”
The audience was puzzled.
“Three to five meters? Is the host going to dig into the underground river?”
“Previous poster, are you a fool? Do you think it’s so easy to dig three to five meters deep?”
Bell quickly explained when he saw the comments.
“Everyone, don’t be mistaken. I don’t have the energy to dig a pit that is three to five meters deep. However, these reeds are also a little wet from the water, so they can’t be wasted.”
As he spoke, Bell took out the dagger and cut off a few reeds.
There was still a trace of sap from the cut part of the reed.
Bell placed it in his mouth like he was chewing sugarcane. His expression changed immediately.
“To be honest, this taste is not good. It’s a little sour and has a pungent smell.”
“But this is the desert after all. We can’t chase after delicacies. We can only try our best to replenish the nutrition in our bodies.”
“Just treat it as chewing sugarcane, although it’s useless.”
It was unknown if Bell was consoling the audience or himself.
Looking at Bell’s difficult expression, everyone knew that the taste of this thing was definitely not good.
Holding the reed, Bell stopped and continued moving along the bottom of the canyon.
He used the reeds to replenish some water while searching for new food and water.
Unfortunately, he did not see any edible plants or animals even after a long while.
The desert was like this.
The large area of yellow sand prevented the plants from sowing or taking root.
But soon, Bell made a new discovery.
Looking at the sand not far from his feet that seemed to be shaking slightly, Bell’s eyes lit up.
“Everyone, we seem to have made some new discoveries.”
Bell took out the dagger and slowly and carefully moved it to the spot where the sand was shaking.
He pushed aside the sand and saw a slightly translucent scorpion crawl out.
Seeing this, Bell quickly pressed it down with the dagger.
Sensing the threat, the scorpion used the two pincers on its front legs and the poisonous stinger on its tail to stab the back of the knife. Unfortunately, it was useless.
“This is a desert scorpion. This thing usually eats small insects in the desert. Occasionally, it will hunt some birds or rats.”
“Of course, such large prey is already a huge harvest for them.”
“Normally speaking, this scorpion cannot capture such prey.”
“But it is my prey today.”
